Alka Lamba was born on Monday, 1 September 1975 (age 48 years; as in 2023) in New Delhi. Her zodiac sign is Virgo. She did her schooling from Government Girls Senior Secondary School No. 1, Delhi. He did B.Sc. from Delhi University in 1996. He did MSc (in 1998) and M.Ed. From Bundelkhand University.

Alka Lamba joined the National Students Union of India (NSUI) in 1994 and was appointed as the Delhi State Students Convenor. In 1995, he won the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) election for the post of President. In 1996, Alka Lamba was appointed as the All India Students Convenor for NSUI and in 1997 she was appointed as the President of All India NSUI. Alka became the General Secretary of All India Mahila Congress in 2002. In 2003, he contested the Delhi Assembly elections. He lost further against BJP leader Madan Lal Khurana from Moti Nagar constituency. In 2006, Lamba became a member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and was named as the General Secretary of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC). In the same year, he was made the Vice Chairman of the National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development (NIPCCD). From 2007 to 2011, he served as the Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in the Indian National Congress. Alka left the Congress in December 2014 and joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
He contested the Delhi Assembly election from Chandni Chowk constituency in 2015 on Aam Aadmi Party ticket and won by a margin of 18,287 votes. He left AAP on 6 September 2019 after several months of bitter feud with the party. On the same day she joined Congress under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi.
In 2020, she contested the Delhi Assembly elections from Chandni Chowk seat on Congress ticket and lost to AAP’s Prahlad Singh Sahni.
Controversy
- In December 2018, AAP passed a resolution in the Delhi Assembly to withdraw the Bharat Ratna awarded to former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi for his alleged role in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Alka posted the resolution on her social media account and alleged that the party had pressured her to support the resolution, and she opted out. After this the party asked him to resign from the Delhi Assembly and the primary membership of the party. Reportedly, they demanded his resignation because he had pressured him to support Rajiv Gandhi.
- In 2018, Lamba, along with other 19 AAP MLAs, was disqualified by the Election Commission of India in the ‘office of profit case’. President of India Ramnath Kovind also approved his disqualification. However, he along with other MLAs filed his petition in the Delhi High Court challenging the Election Commission’s decision.
- Alka Lamba had come to meet the victim of Guwahati molestation case during a press conference in 2016. Alka faced heavy criticism for revealing the identity of the victim in the media. After this she was removed from the fact-finding team of the National Commission for Women (NCW).
- In 2015, he was charged with vandalism after seriously destroying a liquor shop near the Kashmere Gate area of Old Delhi. Recorded CCTV footage showed that she was leading the attack and supervising her supporters throwing things outside. Reportedly, the shop owner was a BJP supporter and had refused to allow AAP workers to put up posters of his party on the shop windows.

- In 2016, he had given a statement against former Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Roy, due to which he was suspended from the post of national spokesperson of Aam Aadmi Party. In his statement, he claimed that Gopal Roy had resigned from the party so that the corruption case in Roy’s department could be investigated hassle-free and he linked his resignation to the Corruption Act. Contrary to his statement, Gopal Roy had announced that he had resigned from his post only due to health problems.

- She runs an NGO named ‘Go India Foundation’, which aims to empower women and youth, encouraging them to participate in the political, social and economic development of India. The NGO came into limelight in 2015, when 65,000 people donated blood in a single day through the NGO.
