These teens went to prison for raping and assaulting a 28-year-old investment banker while she was running. As it turned out, evidence conclusively proving their innocence was discovered and they were released. Unfortunately, they all suffered terrible abuse and trauma while there. This spectacle generated a great deal of backlash, especially from the district attorney, who was said to have coerced a confession from him.

The Central Park Five (2012)
If you are interested in learning more about the history of these young men, filmmaker Ken Burns, along with his daughter Sarah Burns and David McMahon directed a feature documentary about this case which was released in 2012. Sarah Burns reportedly had a summer job . her as a legal clerk at the law firm that handled the lawsuit on behalf of these men. She did her bachelor’s thesis on the subject of racism so that the media would cover the facts of her case.
The five of the central park received excellent reviews. It was ranked the fifth best documentary of 2012. It received 3.5 out of 4 stars from Roger Ebert and currently has an aggregate score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.
In addition, this documentary won several awards. Sarah Burns won the Outstanding Achievement by a Woman in the Film Industry award from the Alliance of Women Film Journalists. The five of the central park it also won the Black Film Critics Circle Award for Best Documentary, the Black Reel Award for Outstanding Documentary, and the Chicago International Film Festival Audience Choice Award for Best Documentary.

The tragic story portrayed in When People See Us was also part of the Innocence Project, an organization that helps exonerate wrongfully convicted people through DNA testing. making a killer is a Netflix series that deals with another wrongful conviction case that the Innocence Project worked on.
making a killer is about the story of Steven Avery, who was arrested and convicted of sexual assault despite having an alibi. He served 18 years in prison before being exonerated when another man matched the DNA found in that case. After his release, he filed a $36 million lawsuit against Manitowoc County and county officials associated with his case.
However, Avery’s story did not end there. He was arrested for another murder two years after his release. It was alleged that Manitowoc County framed him to discredit him in the civil case he was pending.
There are two seasons of making a killer. The first season deals with the original conviction and the second season deals with the following one. The second conviction appeal is ongoing and on February 26, 2019, Avery granted an evidentiary hearing on her motion for a new trial.
The first season received a 98% aggregate rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It also received various accolades, including 7 nominations with 5 wins at the 2016 Primetime Emmy Awards. The second season also received positive reviews, though not as good as the first. Its aggregate rating was 71% on Rotten Tomatoes. There are some critics who thought this show was manipulative, especially since the case is ongoing.
American Crime Story: The People v. O. J. Simpson
A few years after the famous trials staged in when they see us, there was another famous trial that received wide attention. Such was the trial of OJ Simpson for the murder of his wife, Nicole Brown. This trial lasted 11 months and was televised.
On February 2, 2016, the true crime anthology series, american crime story premiered on FX. Each season is a standalone miniseries that follows separate real events. The first season was about this world famous trial.

The second season of american crime story presented the story of the murder of Gianni Versace. More seasons are planned, but the theme of these seasons has not been revealed yet. It revealed the history of the decisions of the doctors of the Memorial Medical Center during Hurricane Katrina, as well as the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal. However, both seasons have been scrapped.
