Deputies in Muscogee County have nabbed Zephaniah Baker, a former candidate for mayor of Columbus, Georgia, who has run for the office multiple times before.
The former candidate was taken into custody after a warrant was issued in Cobb County for kidnapping, aggravated assault and possession of a handgun during the commission of a felony. Baker was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of third-degree cruelty to a child and battery (domestic violence). Baker was captured shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday by U.S. Marshals and the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office’s Drug, Gang and Fugitive Unit. Baker’s allegations have not yet been made public. It’s unclear when the former mayoral candidate will be extradited to Cobb County after being jailed in Muscogee County.
