Affairs/Girlfriends
He had many girlfriends, one of whom was named Jezebel. During an interview in 2012, he said,
Yes, I have been married three times but I am probably still looking for that understanding partner. But now that I am over 60, perhaps that quest will never end!”
livelihood
Before working as an actor, he was a businessman and owned his own shop. He also worked in theater simultaneously. Talking about this in an interview, he said,
I used to try my hand in theater and I always thought that when I turned 40, I would stop theater and do my own thing. And although I won three international awards for my business, I closed the shop and took up acting. It has been a good journey since then.”
He acted in various Hindi films including ‘Raees’ (2017), ‘Dhoom 2’ (2006), and ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ (2001). He also appeared in several Hindi TV serials like ‘Tum Bin Jaoon Kahaan’ (2003), ‘Rooh’ (2004), and ‘Har Ghar Kuchh Kehta Hai’ (2007). He starred in the episodic TV serial ‘CID’ (2000–2010).
Controversy
In 2009, he appeared as a celebrity guest in the TV show ‘Sach Ka Saamna’, in which he made some revelations about his personal life. He said,
Coming to the show was a conscious decision of mine. I knew that some very embarrassing and controversial facts about my life, like my relationships, would be exposed there, but I wanted to come clean with myself and those close to me. And yes, these questions keep me and my family tied, but believe me, we are closer and more understanding to each other now than before.

In the show he was asked whether he had any children outside his marriage. He replied,
I had some physical relations with that woman and so I’m not really sure if the child is mine or not, but I have a legitimate child. I believe in the power of truth and did not participate in the show for money; I just wanted to tell the truth. I can express my feelings in one line – The monster was in the cage and now I have released it.
Death
On 30 October 2021, he died due to complications from COVID-19. He was undergoing treatment at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. On his death, his son-in-law has shared an emotional post on his social media profile. He has written,
I had completed 2 schedules of Shahid. And we got stuck. I was worried. An almost non-existent career as a film producer was over. He then came to me and said that I have a fixed deposit and if you are so worried then it is of no use to me. He wrote a cheque. Shahid is complete. He was Yusuf Hussain. He is not my father-in-law but my father. That was life – if life itself were to be given physical form.
he adds,
Today he left. To remind all the women in heaven that they are ‘the most beautiful girls in the world’ and all the men that they are ‘handsome young men’. And then end with a bang ‘Love You Love You Love You’. Yusuf sir, I am indebted to this new life. I have truly become an orphan today. Life will never be the same. I will miss you a lot. My Urdu will remain broken. And yes – love you, love you, love you!”
Facts/General Knowledge
- Yusuf had a deep love for the city of Lucknow and visited the city often. He said,
Lucknow is my home and will always be. The climate here is such that once a resident of Lucknow, always a resident of Lucknow.”
