Jefferson White is teasing details surrounding his character Jimmy Hurdstrom’s upcoming story in Yellowstone season 5. The neo-Western drama series premiered on Paramount Network back in 2018, and quietly became one of the most-watched shows on television, with its recent season breaking viewership records and gaining awards recognition. Yellowstone follows the tensions that build along shared borders of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, and the conflict between its owners, Broken Rock Indian Reservation, and land developers amid shifting alliances and a slew of criminal activity. In addition to White, Yellowstone stars Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly, Luke Grimes, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, and Gil Birmingham.
Jimmy Hurdstrom is a ranch hand with a troubled past who John Dutton employed as a favor, and someone who had to prove himself over the course of the series. In the Yellowstone season 4 finale, audiences watched as John relieved all of Jimmy’s debt and asked him to show the horse he purchased from the 6666 Ranch in Texas, a place the character had been sent to before as both a punishment and to learn about his responsibilities. Yellowstone was renewed in February, a month after its last episode aired, and season 5 is slated to be its biggest installment yet. Scheduled to debut on November 13, it remains to be seen what lies ahead for Jimmy, as well as his fiancée Emily, and what kind of roles they will have given the development of the Yellowstone: 6666 spin-off show.
Now, in speaking with TV Line, Jefferson White is teasing what audiences can expect from his character’s story in Yellowstone season 5. He shared his hope for Jimmy and Emily’s relationship and explained that after the events of last season, he finally has “a little bit of agency.” When asked about the possibility of returning to the Dutton’s ranch, the actor would not say for certain if Jimmy comes back. “He chose Emily, and he chose this new life in Texas. I cross my fingers that it’s smooth sailing for him because it’s a beautiful thing. It’s the first time in his life he has a little bit of agency… There’s certainly more Jimmy in store. Whether it’s Montana or Texas, you’ll have to wait and find out.“
What To Expect From Jimmy In Yellowstone Season 5
Jimmy is noticeably absent from the Yellowstone season 5 trailer, but based on White’s comments, it’s expected that the new episodes will touch more on his relationship with Emily. Whatever direction that goes in, audiences will likely see their romance continue to evolve, especially now that Kathryn Kelly has been promoted to a series regular. Jimmy’s character arc is the culmination of a lot of lessons learned, so it is hard to imagine him reverting to old habits, and given the way season 4 ended, there could also be a greater focus on the 6666 Ranch in preparation for the spin-off.
Whether his role is reduced or not, viewers will be excited to know that Jefferson White is returning and, if Yellowstone season 5 is the final outing, it would make sense to feature the entirety of its cast. The actor’s tease regarding where his character will end up also suggests that he may make another appearance in Montana before starring in the spin-off show.
