Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey.The director of Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, Rhys Frake-Waterfield, says that the slasher film’s sequel will feature a much larger budget than the first. Using the characters from A.A. Milne’s classic children’s book series, Frake-Waterfield has reimagined Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet as vengeful slasher killers in Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey. The Milne incarnations of Pooh and his friends went into the public domain at the end of 2021, allowing Frake-Waterfield to use the characters to tell a horror story of vengeance after Christopher Robin left the Hundred Acre Wood.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Frake-Waterfield says that the sequel to Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey will have a budget that is around five times the size of the first film’s. The previously announced sequel, seemingly titled Winnie-the-Pooh 2, is one that Frake-Waterfield hopes to spend more time on than the first to ensure a high-quality slasher film. Number two is already going into development. I’m hoping that, at minimum, it’s going to have five times the budget of the first one, but it could be substantially more than that as well, which would do absolute wonders for the film. That’s one of the major challenges. It’s competing with films like M3GAN [and] they are made on orders of magnitude more. When you have more money for a film, you get more time, you get cooler scenes, you can really spend more time refining things. So I’m really excited for what the second film’s going to do.
What Could Happen In Blood & Honey 2?
While it’s unknown what specific plans Frake-Waterfield has for the sequel to Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, a larger budget indicates how important the project is to him. Due to Pooh and Piglet being the only characters to appear in the first movie, it’s possible that other familiar Hundred Acre Wood faces, such as Rabbit or Owl, could make their debuts in the sequel. Christopher Robin also managed to escape Pooh’s wrath at the very end of the first film, meaning Pooh could recruit even more of his friends to hunt down the man who left them to starve so many years ago.
However, Pooh will have another reason to hunt him down as well, given that Piglet is fatally killed with a sledgehammer by college student Alice near the end of the movie. While Pooh gets his revenge on Alice by stabbing her right after Piglet’s demise, it’s likely that the loss of his oldest friend in the Hundred Acre Wood will be a strong motivator for him to continue hunting Christopher. However, Pooh’s plans may not be doable on his own, meaning he may have to recruit familiar faces to help him track down Christopher, partially to avenge Piglet. If Christopher is somehow able to escape the Hundred Acre Wood before Pooh catches him, then the sequel may see Pooh journey beyond the Wood to enact his vengeance.
Despite Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey‘s negative critical reception, the minuscule budget of the film means it doesn’t need to make that much money at the box office to be considered a success. However, a sequel with a larger budget may need the levels of refinement Frake-Waterfield mentions in order to get enough people in seats to be considered a profitable movie. As Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey ends on a cliffhanger, though, it’s likely that people who got invested in the story will come back for the sequel.
