On October 4, 1953, the medical veteran, son of Chicago Sun-Times reporter Vernon Jarrett and Fernette Jarrett, was born to a sibling named Thomas S. Jarrett. William had just been named the new Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Jackson Park Hospital. He also worked as a surgeon and taught at Pontiac General Hospital in Michigan, where he resided. Before traveling to Chicago, he appointed him chief resident. He also graduated from Roosevelt University after studying at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois at Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine in Chicago.

He was married twice in his life and divorced once. He was married to Dr. Sherry Luck Jarrett at the time of his death. He and his wife established two medical practices, one on the North Side and one at 79th and Stony Island. In 1992, Dollars & Cents magazine presented them with a national award for their hard work and good deeds. Vernon C. Jarrett, the couple’s first child, was born. Additionally, Sherry’s previous relationship resulted in the paternity of Khadija Holman. Furthermore, William was previously married to Valerie Jarrett, a prominent government official and entrepreneur. The couple married in 1983, separated in 1987 and divorced in 1988.
Their marriage resulted in the birth of a daughter, Laura Jarrett. Jarrett, the new chief of obstetrics and gynecology at Jackson Park Hospital, died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 40. According to reports, he had Behcet’s syndrome, a rare rheumatological disease that has only been recognized in the United States in the past 20 years.
