Why Silver Shamrock Didn’t Return After Halloween III

The Halloween franchise has seen a number of characters, places, and more, including some brands, as is Silver Shamrock, which was a key element in Halloween III: Season of the Witch, but it didn’t return to the franchise after that – and here’s why. The Halloween saga has gone through different retcons that have made way for different timelines, most of them with Michael Myers as the villain and him going after different targets, but there’s one timeline in the Halloween series that lives in its own universe: that of Halloween III: Season of the Witch.

The Halloween franchise kicked off in 1978 with John Carpenter’s Halloween, which introduced the audience to Michael Myers and Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). Michael continued his killing spree in Halloween II, which picked up minutes after the end of Halloween and showed how hard it is to kill Michael Myers. After Halloween II, Carpenter went back to his original plan for the Halloween series, which was for it to be an anthology movie series, and with Halloween II being the end of the Michael Myers story, the next movie, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, was completely unrelated to the previous movies.

Halloween III: Season of the Witch changed Michael Myers’ murders for a story centered around witchcraft, in which Dr. Dan Challis (Tom Atkins) and Ellie Grimbridge (Stacey Nelkin) investigate a mysterious murder that leads them to Conal Cochran, the owner of the Silver Shamrock Novelties company. Cochran was trying to resurrect the ancient aspects of Samhain, and to achieve that, he planned to kill children through his very popular Halloween masks and a TV ad with the catchiest jingle ever. Although Halloween III wasn’t well-received when it was released, mostly due to the audience linking the title to the story of Michael Myers, Halloween III has now become a cult classic, and Silver Shamrock has made sneaky appearances in recent Halloween movies, though without actually having a role in the story.

Is Silver Shamrock Still Halloween Canon?

Halloween III lives in a timeline separate from all those in the Halloween saga with Michael Myers as the antagonist, and the famous slasher only appeared in it on a TV commercial for the first movie, but that hasn’t stopped Silver Shamrock from making its way into the rest of the franchise. Silver Shamrock made an easy-to-miss appearance in David Gordon Green’s Halloween, in which three kids are briefly seen wearing the skeleton, witch, and jack-o-lantern masks by Silver Shamrock, and the masks made another appearance in Halloween Kills, and the company’s logo was visible at some point, thus confirming these are Silver Shamrock masks. This, then, means that Silver Shamrock is Halloween canon, though the story of how they were used to kill children with the help of a TV ad surely isn’t canon.

Why Halloween Ends Should Properly Bring Back Silver Shamrock

Halloween ends Silver Shamrock Masks

The appearance of Silver Shamrock in the Halloween reboot timeline has made way for speculation over the company’s connection to Michael Myers. It has been theorized that Michael Myers’ mask was made by Silver Shamrock, thus why he can’t be killed easily, as he’s under the control of the mask’s Stonehenge powers, with the purpose of creating chaos on Halloween night. It’s also possible that the mask could have resurrected some ancient evil that has taken over Michael Myers’ body, explaining why he seems to be supernatural (again) after the events of Halloween Kills. Now, the reboot trilogy has already brought back legacy characters, like Tommy Doyle (Anthony Michael Hall) and Lindsey Wallace (Kyle Richards), so it would be fitting that Silver Shamrock was given a proper role in Halloween Ends, which could be used to explain why Michael Myers has survived so much while also connecting the reboot trilogy to the often forgotten and underrated timeline of Halloween III.
