The world has been slow to respond to the situation in Afghanistan, prompting people like Tommy Marcus to step up and help the vulnerable. Tommy’s GoFundMe campaign for Afghanistan has raised more than $5.7 million, and that number continues to grow by the day.
Tommy plans to help rescue people attacked by the Taliban.
As the Taliban wave spread across Afghanistan, Tommy became a credible news source, informing people about the situation on the ground. Behind the scenes, Tommy had begun planning a fundraiser for the Afghan people.
After overcoming all the hurdles, Tommy posted the GoFundMe link. Donations surpassed the initial $550,000 within a couple of hours, forcing Tommy to raise the goal. Overnight, donations had exceeded $2 million.
The fund’s goal is to facilitate the rescue of high-value Taliban targets. The description says:
“The individuals in question are high-value targets: Afghan men and women who have worked as human rights lawyers, women’s and LGBTQ rights advocates, journalists, government liaisons, artists and entertainers, all of whom are at imminent risk. . to be executed by the Taliban, along with their families. We will take entire family units.”
$550,000 would have been enough to fuel two planes, each carrying more than 300 people in and out of Kabul. As more people contribute, Tommy will get more people out of Afghanistan. wrote on Twitter:
“The amount of impact this will have and the lives it will save is so fascinating that no words I can put into this tweet will do it justice. We are making sure that everyone we know is registered and has correct names, identification and airport access. Marcus is working with military veterans, humanitarian aid groups, and non-profit organizations to save as many people as possible. He can contribute to his efforts by contributing to the GoFundMe campaign.

“I have tried to keep people happy. People send me death threats and I turn it into a meme. I think that’s the sweet spot I hit. I received hundreds of messages throughout the pandemic: ‘I didn’t realize this or that’ or ‘You really made me realize what’s going on.’ I got a few messages like, ‘I used to be a Republican and you’ve converted me.
Quentin Quarantino served as an oasis of truth in a desert of internet misinformation. Marcus exposed every lie he saw through a hilarious meme. Some loved it, some hated it, but his following grew nonetheless.
Marcus insists that he is not a man who knows everything, but that he will not sit back and watch people consume misleading information. Tommy added:
“I’m just a human presence that’s fed up with nonsense. I do not claim to be a figure who knows everything. Quentin Quarantino stopped being an alias a long time ago and is literally becoming me. I started to feel comfortable showing my identity. That’s it for the followers and positive comments. It shows me that I’m doing something right.”
Marcus plans to do more for the society by hosting more fundraisers.
Marcus doesn’t do brand ads; he makes money selling politically motivated merchandise. He donates 20% of his income to charities, including Planned Parenthood and Stacey Abrams’ Fair Fight.
“I think I’ve found a good balance between keeping my page ad-free, paying rent, and seeing the money go to good places,” he said.
Tommy has proven to be something of a fundraising guru. He raised more than $1.2 million for Planned Parenthood and supports the millions raised for Afghanistan. He attributes his success to the connection he has created with fans through memes.
