REMINDER: SPOILERS ARE INSIDE! DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW! But if you do, get in now!
In the season finale, Josh was shocked and very determined to get revenge after learning that his mother had been murdered following a drug deal.
To avenge his death and find the killer, he broke Trey (Daniel Di Tomasso) out of jail and together they did undercover work separate from the CSI team.
In the end, the man they had been questioning ended up being the man who also killed Josh’s mother. It is not known at this time if Josh killed him, but somehow, he ended up in a dumpster, dead.
Speaking with TV Insider, Matt discussed Josh’s decisions and how this will affect Season 3.
“I think it was deliberately written with that ambiguity infused in there,” he says when asked if Josh really could have killed the guy. “I’m looking forward to seeing what people are assuming about all of that…it’s definitely open to interpretation.”
Matt added that he was in shock from the episode.
“Whatever event has happened, it is deeply disturbing. There’s also been some kind of adrenaline-pumping mission in the last 48, 72 hours, so it’s a dump,” he shared. “You find me at the beginning, in that place before I knew my mother passed away, searching for something, searching for something that was perhaps substantial from my past, something that was comforting, something familiar, and then finding myself there. again. at the end with that kind of adrenaline rush.”
So does Matt really think Josh would go to any lengths to get justice for his mom?
“Absolutely,” he stated. “…My whole life is this measured approach, self-control, and choosing a completely different path than the one that was probably presented to me or was likely to follow. I think that measured part and that self-control part of Josh is what he came up with with the blood trick, but then something snaps and something snaps. Suddenly you are looking at the face of your mother’s killer. So yeah, I think anything is possible.”
As for what that means for Josh in Season 3, Matt says that he’s “going to fight for my job.”
“There has to be some kind of investigation into what happened. A lot, I think, will be revealed,” she adds. “Hopefully I can do some behind-the-glass scenes, you know what I mean? In prison, that would be great.”
