Who Is Kristen Kish From “Selena + Chef”?

The fourth season of Selena + Chef will premiere on HBO Max on August 18. The hit food show follows actress and singer Selena Gomez as she continues to find her place in the kitchen with the support of world-renowned chefs. Top Chef Champion Kristen Kish will show Gomez how to cook sweet corn and baby carrots with smoked yogurt this season. Kish’s passion for cooking began at the age of 5 when he started watching the cooking show Great Chefs in the World on Discovery Channel.

Kish is heard saying in the Selena + Chef teaser:

“We adhere to a light, colorful and pleasant summer atmosphere.”

Other celebrity chefs appearing in Season 4 of Selena + Chef include Adrienne Cheatham, Devonn Francis, Gordon Ramsay, Ludo Lefebvre, Matty Matheson, Nick DiGiovanni, Paola Velez, Priya Krishna, and Rachael Ray. Here, we learn more about Kristen Kish, ahead of the show’s season premiere.

On the side of Selena + Chef Kristen Kish often prepares dishes influenced by French cuisine.

Kristen Kish was born in Seoul, South Korea and was adopted by a family from Michigan at the age of 4 months. People often assume that because of her Korean origin, she only cooks Korean food. However, her culinary approach is largely inspired by French cuisine. Kish’s knowledge of Asian cuisine, especially Korean, is scant. She believes that other chefs are better at such delicacies than she is. However, she did make kimchi, japchae and bulgogi while appearing on Lucky Chow with Korean chef Maangchi on YouTube. Kish later revealed in an interview that she never tried those dishes again.

The Korean-American chef is one of the co-hosts of the Netflix series Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend. She previously competed in Iron Chef Showdown: Battle Beantown, where she defeated Matt Jennings but lost to Jose Garces. Kish also won Top Chef Season 10, becoming the second female chef to do so. She then compared her experiences on Top Chef and Iron Chef, claiming that the latter required more preparation and rehearsal in their own kitchens with their team’s, while Top Chef forced the contestants to think for themselves.

Kristen Kish Cooking’s debut cookbook was published in 2017. The following year, she teamed up with Sydell to found her first restaurant, Arlo Grey. Kish is also one of three chefs participating in TruTV’s Fast Foodies, a culinary competition starting in 2021.
