Who Is Keenan Cooks From “Dance 100”?

Dance 100, Netflix’s newest dance challenge, will feature an unprecedented number of performers and directors. The contestants on the upcoming series don’t want to be the next best; they want to be the next best director and make $100,000. Keenan Kitchens from Boston is one of the applicants to the upcoming dance competition. Keenan is an up-and-coming dancer who has done a number of commercials, including BET and GAP commercials. The Dance 100 season premiere will air on Friday, March 17, at 3:01 a.m. ET.

Dance 100 contestant Keenan Kitchens served as a “movement instructor” on an episode of Blindspot.

Keenan Kitchens was one of eight contestants selected for Netflix’s Dance 100. According to his Instagram profile, the future Dance 100 contestant has previously been credited with collaborating with many musicians, including Cardi B, JLo , Kelly Rowland, Prince Royce, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, Lizza Halsey, Dua Lipa, J Balvin and BTS. According to his website, he previously directed commercials for BET and GAP, and was a “motion teacher” for the Season 2 episode of Blindspot.

“Cardi B’s first choreographer was Keenan. He choreographed Cardi’s first show, “The Underestimated Tour”, when he was with her. He also directed her first two award appearances, which were at the MTV Video Music Awards and the BET Awards Aftershow.

“Keenan has also worked with David Guetta, J Balvin, Bebe Rexha, Meek Mill and Yo Gotti on the choreography. He also served as back-up dancer for Kelly Rowland and Lizzo. His dance can be seen in Lizzo’s Made in America performance as well as her Saturday Night Live performance. Keenan only recently started choreography.”

The future Dance 100 contestant grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. He started performing at the age of 14 and in 2008 he moved to New York to find work as a performer. His work has taken him around the world and he has taught in Japan, Korea, China, Peru, Spain, Germany, France, Argentina, England, Italy, Switzerland, Israel, Canada and South Africa.

Team members work as instructors at Studio Broadway Dance Center in New York and as special instructors at Movement Lifestyle and Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles. His courses as an instructor focus on “enhancing performance” and he encourages his students to not only open up, but find methods of connecting dance and music with everyday circumstances.

According to his Broadway Ballet Center biography:

“The class will begin with a warm-up that includes exercises as well as basic hip-hop rhythms found in Keenan’s routine. You’ll be encouraged to integrate personality, acting, precision, and rhythm as you learn classroom routines. Keenan’s classes are HIGH ENERGY, so dress accordingly.”

Rudy Garcia, Brandi Chun, Rex Kline, Akira Armstrong, Celine Edmondson, Max Pham and Janick Arseneau are among those who have joined the Netflix show.

According to Netflix’s news statement, the show will be:

“There can be 100 performers in a room… but it will take them all to determine who will be the next great director. Every move counts in the upcoming Dance 100 series, which premieres March 17.”

The first season of Dance 100 will be available on Netflix on Friday, March 17.
