Outchef’d, Food Network’s new food show, premiered an enticing two-part episode on Tuesday, September 28, 2022, at 9:00 p.m. ET. In this episode, two chefs and contestants from each side competed against each other. Among the evening’s chefs were Iron Chef Alex Guarnaschelli and Chef Antonia Lofaso. Home chefs Jimmy and Derek go up against legendary chefs. Derek Bowley is a teacher from Washington who has always had a passion for cooking. Entrants need just one vote from a panel of six tasters to win and take home $5,000, while professional chefs must try to wipe out all the votes.
While Jimmy received one vote and won the prize money, Derek received no votes for the second half of the show, leaving him empty-handed but with valuable culinary experience compared to chef Antonio Lofaso.

Derek mentioned before the competition that his love of cooking started when he started helping his mother in the kitchen. When he moved out and started cooking for himself, he began to learn more by watching episodes of Food Network, which “helped him try new things”. In the confessional, he admitted:
“I like to share what I know because I believe food is amazing… and that shows when I talk about food or my cooking.”
When Outchef host Eddie Jackson greeted them, he waited in the green room with his husband Tim and friend SJ. At first, Derek mistook it for an audition and was surprised to learn he would be competing against chef Antonio Lofas. Chef Antonia Lofaso has experience in reality television, appearing on shows like Cutthroat Kitchen, Top Chef, Chopped and Restaurant Startup, among others.
Outchef’d contestants and chefs were given eggs as the main ingredient of the meal and 45 minutes to prepare them. Derek struggled to cook the potatoes for the duration of the cooking. He tried transferring it to the pan for better results, but only succeeded until the deadline expired. When the two finished their meal, Outchef host Eddie Jackson took to the streets to select tasters to check on the preparation process.

Although the panel praised the menu and the chef’s overall taste, they said the egg was not the “star of the meal”. Although Derek’s meal was “firm but at the same time tender”, the committee found that the eggs and potatoes did not add much flavor.
Chef Antonia Lofaso won all the votes at the end of the Outchef’d episode. Derek treasures his time on the show, even if he doesn’t win the $10,000 prize. Outchef’d’s launch is off to a hot start and there will be more competition in the future. Other chefs competing against the contestants include Eric Adjepong, Anne Burrell, Maneet Chauhan, Scott Conant, Tiffani Faison, Amanda Freitag, Alex Guarnaschelli, Antonia Lofaso, Marc Murphy and Geoffrey Zakarian.
