The series aims to brighten up the festive season. It will feature new recipes, challenges and famous contestants. The Netflix show will follow the show’s basic premise, in which contestants compete fiercely to impress the judges. One is eliminated at the end of each episode. Olly Alexander, Lydia West, Nathaniel Curtis and Shaun Dooley will be among four famous contestants on The Great British Baking Show: Holidays. Alexander won a British LGBT Award and was nominated for a BAFTA Award for his starring role in It’s a Sin.

Lydia West played Jill Baxter in the mini-series for which she received a BAFTA Award. In It’s a Sin, Nathaniel Curtis plays Ash Mukherjee. As the new season begins, he joins the rest of The Great British Baking Show: Holidays and Shaun Dooley. The Great British Baking Show: Holidays trailer shows contestants trying to bake a cake from Christmas leftovers. The video features four celebrities trying to figure things out while Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood give their opinions. Leit provided context for the clip by saying:

“I believe most countries would agree with me that the best part of the Christmas dish is the leftovers.”

Celebrities can choose their own cakes, as long as “baking is key”. Leith added that the contestants had to avoid “soggy bottoms” and bake the cake until crispy. The judges, all British cooking legends, expect nuanced flavors and textures from these bakers. According to Hollywood:

“Should I be too strict in my judgment? Nothing. Isn’t it the holiday season? And I’m sure they practiced.”
