Mick Cronin, a native of Cincinnati, grew up with his brother Dan Cronin, who is now a professional handicapper. Dan, like his brother Mick, played college basketball, but decided to pursue a career in horse racing instead of professional basketball. Mick Cronin is the head coach of the UCLA Bruins men’s basketball team at the University of California.
He began his career in 1991 as an assistant coach at Woodward High. Mick held the same role at the University of Cincinnati from 1996 to 2001 and the University of Louisville from 2001 to 2003. Similarly, his career took off in 2003 when he became the head coach of the Murray State Racers. Furthermore, the head coach had an impactful thirteen-season career with the Cincinnati Bearcats from 2006 to 2019. During his tenure in Cincinnati, he led the club to nine consecutive NCAA Tournament berths and two AAC titles. Furthermore, Mick’s outstanding coaching abilities have earned him several trophies, including OVC Coach of the Year and Pac-12 Coach of the Year.

Growing up in Cincinnati, they often accompanied their father, Hep Cronin, who worked at the River Downs racetrack. Undoubtedly, their father instilled an early interest in horse racing in them.
Mike never raced professionally, but his older brother Dan did. Dan now runs FatBaldGuyRacing.com, a prominent online sports betting forum. Mick Cronin, born July 17, 1971, is the third child of Peggy and Harold “Hep” Cronin. Besides him, they have a son, Dan, and a daughter, Kelly Cronin.
