Jaedyn Shaw was born to Lance and Ann Shaw on November 20, 2004 in Frisco, Texas. After recognizing Shaw’s enthusiasm for soccer, her parents enrolled her in a soccer academy at a young age. The young Texan demonstrated her prodigious talent, eclipsing more experienced players.
Lance and Ann decided to invest in their daughter’s career, cutting expenses to make enough money for Shaw. There was a time when the family lived in a one-bedroom apartment. ann said Goal:
“There was a year or two where the four of us lived in a one-bedroom apartment so we could allow him to travel out of town, out of state, out of the country. “My husband and I put our lives on the back burner (no vacation, no honeymoon, nothing) so we could handle the financial burdens that came with the opportunity.”
Shaw focused on the positive side, stating that the living conditions brought the family closer together. Looking back, Ann said the sacrifices she and Lance made were worth it. “I think sacrifice is really the main reason some of these athletes have the opportunity to do it and carry the humility and work ethic that they do, because of the things we’ve had to sacrifice,” Ann continued.
Shaw said ESPN that he owed everything to his family: “I owe everything to my parents for the sacrifices they made for me. “I know we didn’t always have a lot to work with and they always made sure I had what I needed to be able to play the game I love.”
