Dave Canales was born on May 7, 1981. He is the third child of his father Isaac and mother Ritha Canales. Dave’s parents played an important role in establishing his beliefs and faith, ultimately leading him in the right direction. His father, Isaac, who had a difficult life, contracted polio at a young age and almost died, leaving his right arm without function. Despite growing up in the worst neighborhood in Los Angeles, his father eventually attended Harvard.
After graduation, he went home to lead the Misson Ebenezer Family Church, which Dave’s grandparents, the Reverend Miguel and Lupe Canales, founded in 1959. After nearly four decades as senior pastor, Dave’s father retired and his brother Josh took over. . Furthermore, Dave’s mother, Ritha, is an assistant pastor and works in the church’s human resources department. Nevertheless, the family sincerely follows God’s values, and on the basis of their convictions speaks of the Lord’s majesty.

Dave Canales, a native of Harbor City, California, grew up with his older brother Josh and younger brother Coba. Interestingly, they all have experience in athletics. Dave’s brother, Joshua Brubaker Canales (born January 15, 1979), aka Josh, formerly played college baseball for the UCLA Bruins.
Despite being selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2001 MLB draft, he never made his major league debut. Instead, he replaced his father as the lead pastor when he retired in April 2019. In his personal life, he is happily married to his Nigerian-American wife, Bunmi. The two embrace parenthood and have three children: Elisha, Juda and Adelola. They initially met in UCLA’s sports practice, where she competed in track and field.
Similarly, Dave’s brother, Jacob Canales (born April 22, 1984 to Carley Johnston and Brock Wright), aka Coba, is a former NCAA football and baseball player. He initially committed to the University of Pennsylvania, but then transferred to Azusa Pacific University. Coba holds a bachelor’s degree in biblical studies and a doctorate in education. He now serves as dean of students at Azusa Pacific University, his alma mater.
