Dave Chappelle is an American comedian best known for his sketch comedy series, Chappelle’s Show (2003-2005) and his stand-up comedy. He has also received two Emmy Awards and two Grammy Awards. In 2017, Rolling Stone ranked Dave ninth on his list of the 50 Greatest Standup Comics of All Time.
Chappelle is as controversial as he is funny. He has been criticized for some of his jokes about race, politics, and sexual violence. He also became a voice for social change. In one of his 2020 shows, Dave called for justice for George Floyd through a monologue that will live long in the memory of anyone who has seen it.
This piece will focus on Dave Chappelle’s wife, Elaine Chappelle.
Elaine was initially skeptical about dating Chappelle
Elaine was born on August 31, 1974. She was raised in Brooklyn, New York, by Filipino Christian parents. Dave and Elaine met in New York and dated for a long time before deciding to get married. However, early in the relationship, Elaine was skeptical about dating a star like Chappelle.
Some reports suggest that Dave’s decision to convert to Islam may have affected the couple’s relationship. Dave converted to Islam in 1997, but did not provide a reason for the change. Elaine was raised by staunch Christian parents, and therefore religion could have held back the progress of the relationship.
However, the couple’s love grew stronger and the relationship blossomed. Elaine and Dave finally got married in 2001. Dave and Elaine are now approaching two decades as a married couple, and their relationship remains as strong as ever.
Elaine and Dave live in Ohio to protect their children from fame.

Dave and Elaine are currently blessed with three children; Sulaymana, Ibrahim and Sonal. Despite being the children of one of the biggest comedy stars in the world, Elaine’s children have managed to live a largely low-key life.
It’s mainly due to Chappelle’s decision to live in Ohio, where people don’t treat him like a celebrity. In 2017, Dave spoke with CBS News about how he is treated in Ohio. He said;
“They will remind me that I am a celebrity here, but I don’t think about it until someone asks me for a selfie or something. It won’t even occur to me that that’s what it is… It’s almost like a nature reserve where they’ll let me run free. I am well protected.”
Dave occasionally talks about his family during his shows, but it’s hard to tell when he’s telling the truth or joking. What is clear, however, is that he shares a close bond with his wife and his children. Chappelle joked during a 2014 performance: “My wife is Asian and my kids somehow turned out to be Puerto Rican.”
She dreamed of becoming a professional chef.
Elaine reportedly wanted to become a professional chef, but was not given the opportunity to do so. Instead, she decided to become a housewife after having children. The couple’s children also changed the way Dave approached his professional life. He said CBS News;
“Everything changed after I had children. I took my professional life more seriously and I think that as a man I had more depth after having children.
However, he still practices his cooking skills at home. Chappelle once said, “She doesn’t work as a professional chef, [but the kids] he regularly eats like kings at home, thanks to his excellent culinary skills.”
