As of patch 6.2 of FFXIV, Astro Quartz Stones are our untapped level 90 marbles, meaning they are used to purchase late-game crafting materials and some catch-up gear.
You’ll collect astronomy from level 90 activities like Quests, Storks, Hunts, and Treasure Maps. If you have it in stock, you can buy it here.
Materials
The Astronomical Canon can be found in Raz-at-Han and Cihanti use together [10.8, 10.3].
Planetariums are very important to crafters as they are used to purchase top tier crafting materials that are used to craft equipment strong enough to reach the current level of Brutal Raid.
There are also materials that can be used to make battle potions called tinctures. These consumables have steady demand but are often more competitive in the market than equipment.
Even if you’re not an artist, you shouldn’t let your astronomical reputation be discredited! Buy materials and sell them on the market for gil. The six expensive materials at the top of the list are “current” ones. The cheaper ones are upstairs and not worth much anymore.
Check your marketplace table to see what’s on sale on your particular server. One quick way is to set up a favorites list. Right-click an item in the search results and add it to your favorites list.
Using the Favorites button in the lower left corner of the Market Board window, you can quickly look through your inventory to see which materials are most valuable, then use your Codex Stones for that material.

You can also use Astro Stones to purchase Radiant sets. You may recognize this skin as the NPC outfit of the Radiant Host members. You can see them around Thavnair and in the Endwalker MSQ.
Radiation protection suit.
At ilvl 590, this equipment is enough for testing and raiding in level 90 dungeons and story mode. Since Astronomy can be farmed very easily, it’s a good choice if you just want to try a new job with max level content.
If you are a lover of Charms and want to dye it, you will need to upgrade it to a level 600 item.
Roborant (for weapons), Twine (for left parts) and Overlays (for accessories) can be obtained from Nesvaaz in Radz-at-Han Buy [10.6, 10.0] Use Tokens from Aglaia (Level 90 Alliance Raid).
These upgrades can also be obtained from the appropriate hunting providers in Old Shalaine or Razhan for seed bags.
Bring Radiant gear and proper upgrades for Khaldeen in Radz-at-Han [10.9, 10.4] Exchange them for enhanced radiation equipment.
Notes on the Tomestone cycle
The way currency works in Final Fantasy XIV is that at any given time there are two rules of the end of the game. Both tomes can be obtained by working at the highest level (90), but one has a weekly limit (450/week), while the other can be farmed indefinitely.
A new bounded book (causal in 6.2) appears at every even-numbered patch, at which point the previously bound book (astronomy) becomes unbounded. The previously untapped Tomestone (motto) is deprecated and can no longer be used to purchase things from vendors.
If you haven’t already done so, you can exchange any unused Maxim steles for Astronomy.
Keep in mind that as players get more and more gear from limited-time sources like Savage Raids and Karma Stones, players will need less and less of these crafting materials and potions. Astronomical values decrease over time, so make sure to make the most of them!
