Logic (real name: Sir Robert Bryson Hall II) is an American streamer, retired rapper, and record producer. He began his musical career in 2010, and after the success of his 2013 mixtape Young Sinatra: Welcome to foreverlanded a contract with Def Jam Recordings.
Logic’s third album, All, earned him the main success. Its lead single, 1-800-273-8255, peaked at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was an international hit. Logic received widespread acclaim for his single, featuring hard-hitting lyrics that helped raise awareness for mental health. In 2020, Sir Robert retired from rap to pursue streaming.
Logic has an African-American father and a white mother, making him biracial.

Logic was born on January 22, 1990 in Rockville, Maryland. Among his seven half-siblings, Logic looked the whitest. It didn’t matter much back then, but as he got older, people’s perceptions of his race began to matter more. Due to the stereotype associated with his skin color, Logic struggled to convince people that he grew up in abject poverty. He said Complex:
“People look at me like, ‘He’s from the suburbs and he grew up rich, and mom and dad pay for everything. Man, get out of here. Growing [in Maryland], there were weapons in the house, my brothers were selling crack. I grew up in Section 8 housing, food stamps, welfare, and dealing with social services. I never had a Christmas, I never had a birthday.”
Logic has to constantly clarify that he is biracial. “And then I have to explain to them, like, no, I’m actually black and white,” the retired rapper said. npr. “I am biracial. Just so you know.” However, his constant explanations don’t bother him. He said VLADTV that people’s perceptions of him don’t matter, as he is comfortable with his racial identity.
Logic’s brother sold crack to Logic’s father
Logic’s parents suffered from crippling addictions. Her father, Robert Bryson Hall, was addicted to cocaine, while her mother suffered from alcoholism. Logic’s brothers manufactured and distributed crack in Logic’s neighborhood. The streamer claims that he learned how to crack accurately by watching his brothers do it.
Logic’s father would occasionally buy crack for his children. From the outside looking in, that situation seems less than ideal, but to Logic, it made sense. He said VLADTV that his brother had a child on the way and a wife to take care of. She could earn minimum wage working in a fast food restaurant or selling drugs and earn a decent living.
His father, though struggling with addiction, could take solace in the fact that the drugs he obtained from his children were not laced with potentially fatal additives. Added logic: “As ignorant as I am, I’d rather sell my dad crack than have him go somewhere else and get shot.” Logic has addressed the family’s drug situation in his music; something his father doesn’t fully appreciate. He said Complex:
“My dad called me and said, ‘I really don’t appreciate you talking about me smoking crack all the time.’ I’m like, ‘Would you appreciate it if I didn’t say anything and put those same drugs in my body to try to get over what you put me through? Or would you rather I do it in a positive way?’”
Logic’s mother occasionally hurled racial slurs at her biracial children.
“My mother was a good woman,” Logic said. Complex. However, crippled by addiction, she rarely brought out the good side of herself. “She went through a lot of drug shit, prostitution, all kinds of shit,” Logic explained. Shockingly, she revealed that her mother once tried to strangle him to death. Her description of her house is just as disturbing, if not more so:
“I can’t even begin to explain the tormenting feeling of living in that house: constant screaming, blood-curdling screams, arguments between my mother and another me, her getting her butt kicked. Sometimes there was blood all over the kitchen and the fucking floor.”
Then there were the racial slurs. Logic found it difficult to understand why his mother was racially abusing him and his brothers. “Here is a woman who wants to sleep with a black man and have babies and she wants to be racist with them,” he said. “It’s extremely difficult to understand.”
In her early teens, Logic’s godmother, Mary Jo, brought Logic into her family. He said VLADTV who considers Mary Jo as her mother. She explained: “My mother is Mary Jo. Not to discredit my biological mother; I’m just saying the person who raised me and gave me the mindset. You can’t choose the family you’re born into, but you can choose the family you keep around you.”
