What Happens When You Beat Risk of Rain 2’s Planetarium

Risk of Rain 2 received its Survivors of the Void DLC last week, introducing dozens of new items, enemies, and two new Survivors, but it also added a new area called the Planetarium. As players progress throughout Risk of Rain 2, new world events and enemies spawn throughout randomly generated levels. While most new levels provide unique aesthetics, the Planetarium is a cherished destination for players wishing to unlock hidden features in the DLC. While Survivors of the Void offers plenty of new content for players, the Planetarium stands in the way of unlocking and encountering several new characters, enemies, and activities.

Risk of Rain 2 is a multiplayer roguelike game that follows a stranded crew escaping a hostile alien planet. Players can choose from a selection of fourteen Survivors, with a fifteenth unlocking if players accomplish and acquire special items within each run. Items, enemies, and levels are randomized with each run, making each session a unique adventure. Additionally, players can access several hidden areas by defeating special enemies and activating Shrines hidden throughout the levels. While these requirements may not always be obvious, the game has been out long enough to create a coherent guide for most players. The Planetarium is one such location that players may need assistance accessing and completing.

Now that Hopoo Games released Risk of Rain 2‘s Survivors of the Void expansion, players can finally access new content to revitalize the game. The biggest additions are two new Survivor characters: the Railgunner and the Void Fiend. While the former comes unlocked, players must journey to the Planetarium and escape unscathed to unlock the Void Fiend. While there are many lore entries, items, and enemies to collect and defeat throughout the strange location, players can also experience a unique ending unobtainable by defeating Mithrix, King of Nothing. However, the Planetarium is shrouded in mystery like many locations and creatures in ROR2.

Where Is The Planetarium In Risk Of Rain 2?

On an average Risk of Rain 2 run, players usually complete five unique stages and pass through their teleporters to access Pelagio V’s moon. After defeating Mithrix, King of Nothing, Survivors must then board an escape vessel before the moon explodes. However, the Planetarium offers a new fate for Survivors brave enough to explore it. As players progress through Risk of Rain 2 with its new expansion, there are multiple opportunities to access the new area. Survivors can access the Planetarium through a purple portal that players can find in the Bazaar Between Time within a tunnel beneath the blue portal. A purple portal may also appear when players complete a teleporter event, but this depends on randomized chance. The final option is to defeat Mithrix on the moon, abandon the rescue ship, and return to the stage’s starting area to pet a frog. Unfortunately, players must have a minimum of ten Lunar Coins to pet the frog and spawn the purple portal to enter the Void Fields, one of the areas preceding the Planetarium.

How Do Players Complete The Planetarium In Risk Of Rain 2?

Risk of Rain 2 Planetarium

The Void Fields are the first step to accessing Risk of Rain 2‘s secret boss in the Planetarium. To pass the Void Fields, Survivors must breach all nine cells located throughout the level. Like teleporter events, players must battle waves of enemies to charge each cell. It’s recommended that four-player parties enter the Void Fields to ensure the maximum chance of success, as single-players and duos can be easily overwhelmed. Once parties defeat all available enemy waves, a Null portal will open. However, players shouldn’t enter the Null Portal and must wait for the Void Portal to open instead. Then, the closest available Survivor should select the Void Locus location.

The Void Locus is the last stage before players enter the Planetarium and features similar mechanics to the Void Fields. Once these signals activate, a protective shield appears around the party, and enemies begin to spawn throughout the arena. After defeating these waves, players must return to the top of the Hidden Realm and enter the final portal to access the Planetarium. Unlike all other released stages in Risk of Rain 2, the Planetarium only features a boss fight with accompanying mechanics and passive mobs scattered throughout the level.

Unlike most bosses in Risk of Rain 2, the Planetarium contains the Voidling with three boss fight phases. The new Railgunner can use her sniper rifle to attack the Voidling’s eye for maximum damage, but players must avoid its projectiles. Most are extremely slow and require minimal movement to dodge, but players must seek cover to evade its laser and avoid their Black Hole power. In each phase, players must use portals throughout the level and platform their way back to the Voidling. Each phase follows this pattern, forcing players to kill the Voidling efficiently and escape through the final portal to unlock an alternative ending and a new playable character.

Void Fiend Is The Planetarium Reward In Risk Of Rain 2

Risk of Rain 2 Void Fiend

After players complete the Planetarium and reach the menu again, they’ll receive Risk of Rain 2‘s locked DLC character: The Void Fiend. The Void Fiend must carefully balance its damage output with its corruption as a mid to long-range attacker. The Void Fiend features a passive skill called Void Corruption that constantly increases or decreases the Corruption gauge to switch the character between forms. Drown and Corrupted Drown are the Void Fiend’s primary attack methods, firing off infinite energy beams to decimate its foes. Flood and Corrupted Flood are charged secondary attacks with +1100% damage capacity. Like all Survivors, the Void Fiend features a unique movement ability called Trespass and Corrupted Trespass that shoots the player in a vertical or lateral arc. Unlike most Survivors that exert damage with their special moves, the Void Fiend features an ultimate power that rises (or lowers) its corruption gauge by 25% in both forms depending on the player’s current shape. Nonetheless, the Void Fiend is a valuable addition to the game’s Survivor roster and worth the Planetarium trip.

Risk of Rain 2‘s secret Void Fiend character features unique gameplay mechanics that enhance the roguelike game’s experience. While there are many roguelike games to choose from, like Hades and FTL, Risk of Rain 2‘s gameplay and lore provides a new adventure in an oversaturated gaming industry. The Planetarium’s spawning conditions and boss battle offer an excellent experience of what makes Risk of Rain 2 unique and should be one of the first destinations sought out by DLC owners and their parties. Risk of Rain 2: Survivors of the Void is available now on Steam.
