Jacoby Ellsbury is a former professional baseball player. Jacoby Ellsbury played from center fielder position for the Boston Red Sox(2007-2013) and New York Yankees(2014-2017) in Major League Baseball(MLB).

Early Life

On the 11th of September 1983, Jacoby Ellsbury was born in Madras, Oregon, in the United States of America. His birth name is Jacoby McCabe Ellsbury and holds American nationality. He is currently 39 years old and has a birth sign of Virgo. Additionally, he belongs to the American-Indian ethnicity and has his belief in Christianity religion.

His parents’ names are Jim Ellsbury(father) and Margie Ellsbury(mother). Professional Career

Minor leagues

Jacoby Ellsbury was picked up by the Boston Red Sox in the  1st round of the 2005 MLB draft. On July 14, 2005, he made his professional minor league debut against the Lowell Spinners. Baseball America ranked him as the sixth-best prospect entering the 2006 season. On July 12, 2006, he was named to the Carolina League All-Star team.

He got promoted to the Class AA Eastern League’s Portland Sea Dogs. The Red Sox even named him Minor League Defensive Player of the Year and Baserunner of the Year. On June 30, 2007, he made his MLB debut as a centre fielder against the Texas Rangers.

Boston Red Sox

In September 2007, he was named MLB’s American League Rookie of the Month. Moreover, he started Game 6 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) against the Cleveland Indians in 2007. After the Red Sox won the World Series, he won his first career championship with them. Baseball America ranked Ellsbury as the 13th-best prospect in baseball during the 2008 season.

On April 22, 2008, he had his first career multi-home run game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In MLB.com’s annual This Year in Baseball Awards, he was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2009. He collided with one of the players on April 11, 2010, resulting in hairline fractures to four of his left ribs. Moreover, he was unable to play for the rest of the 2010 season.

After a win over the New York Yankees on September 25, 2011, this player became the first member of the Boston Red Sox to join the 30-30 club. On August 28, 2013, he suffered another compression fracture after fouling a ball off his right foot during a game against the Orioles. He missed the 2018 season after suffering a right oblique strain, being diagnosed with a hip ailment, and undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left hip. Additionally, he began the 2019 season on the 10-day injured list with a foot injury, which was later revealed to be plantar fasciitis and a shoulder injury. The Yankees released him on November 20, 2019.
