Wendy Williams’ son Kevin Hunter Jr. reveals his dementia is ‘alcohol-induced’

Following the news that his mother Wendy Williams has been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, Kevin Hunter Jr. revealed the main cause of her illness.

During the two-part Lifetime documentary Where is Wendy Williams? Hunter Jr. revealed that his alcoholism caused the illnesses.

“I was really able to learn more about the things that happen internally with my mother,” she explained. “[Doctors] He basically said that because he drank so much, it was starting to affect his mental space and his brain. “So I think they said it was alcohol-induced dementia.”

Williams discovered he had brain damage in 2019 when he went to rehab. However, she did not receive the official diagnosis of dementia and aphasia until last year. Her niece Alex Finnie said she found out about the brain damage in 2022. But Finnie knew something was wrong when Williams kept forgetting memories and events about her.

“But after seeing my aunt and spending time with her in the state she is in now, I quickly realized that things just weren’t normal,” Finnie explained in the documentary. “It’s heartbreaking.”

Finnie further noted that several factors played a key role in her aunt’s worsening condition. Factors include the COVID-19 pandemic, the death of Williams’ mother and her divorce from Kevin Hunter Sr.

Wendy Williams’ ex-attorney questions her diagnoses, blames court-ordered conservatorship

Just before the documentary aired, Wendy Williams’ former attorney, LaShawn Thomas, spoke out about the diagnoses by posting an old video of a healthy Williams lying in bed. He blames a court-ordered guardianship situation for his health problems.

“You can clearly see the difference between Wendy’s well-being during her stay here in Florida with her son caring for her and her lack thereof in New York under this ‘guardianship,’” Thomas wrote.

“These Wendys are not the same. How did her health deteriorate so quickly and why is her only son not allowed to be by her side? She wasn’t like that when he took care of her. [her].”

Thomas also revealed that he filmed Wendy Williams two weeks before the court ordered her to return to New York. She was then placed under guardianship.

“My mother passed away on October 1, 2022 from complications related to her ALS diagnosis and I feel very blessed and grateful to have been able to spend every second I could with her before she left this earth,” Thomas continued.

“If Wendy’s diagnosis is true, now more than ever, her son should be allowed the same grace. “He deserves it…and most importantly, Wendy deserves it.”
