Wednesday Should Be Single In Season 2, Says Enid Actor

Despite being one of the people audiences want to see date her, Emma Myers feels Wednesday Addams should be single heading into Wednesday season 2. Myers starred in the Tim Burton-produced Netflix series as Enid Sinclair, the roommate of Jenna Ortega’s eponymous Addams teenager and a werewolf struggling with her inability to completely transform, instead only able to grow out her claws on command and in moments of extreme emotion. Wednesday season 1 largely saw Enid assist with the murder mystery in the neighboring town of Jericho, as well as her feelings for gorgon student Ajax.

In a recent interview with Variety, Emma Myers opened up about the surprise success of Netflix’s Wednesday series. When asked about viewers shipping her and the titular Addams family daughter, the Enid actor confirmed she had seen those fan suggestions, and that while she would be open to that, she actually believes Wednesday should be single heading into season 2. See what Myers said below:

Anything is possible in the show. We haven’t really spoken about direction at all, so I don’t really know what the game plan is for anything. As far as love interests go for Wednesday, I feel like at least for a second season, she needs to take her season of singleness. She just had a whole fiasco with her men, she’s got to lay it off for a little bit. I would be deterred from dating anybody if I had gone through that.

Why Wednesday Being Single Is Better For Season 2

Though a breakout hit for Netflix, Wednesday wasn’t met with exclusively glowing reviews, sitting at just a 72 percent approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. One of the bigger points of criticism for the show stemmed from its inclusion of teen drama tropes, frequently landing comparisons to such CW shows as Riverdale and Charmed, the biggest being that of a love triangle between Wednesday, fellow student Xavier and normie Tyler, the latter of whom is revealed to be the Hyde being controlled by Christina Ricci’s Laurel Gates. Given the show’s high school setting, it seemed nigh impossible for Wednesday to not explore some form of potential relationships for the character, however considering her morose nature, it did leave an uncertain taste in viewers’ mouths.

While Myers’ note that Wednesday’s ordeals with Xavier and Tyler in season 1 would put off anyone from immediately jumping back into the dating pool is understandable, the bigger picture is that it would be better for the show to have Ortega’s character be single heading into Wednesday season 2. It could not only allow the character to experience better emotional development with her non-romantic options, but could also open the door to the series depicting an even darker version of Wednesday expected from season 1. However, given the Wednesday season 1 finale ended on a cliffhanger of her learning she has a stalker after her, it does seem likely some form of love interest will be presented to her come season 2.

How Wednesday & Enid Would Be The Best Couple

It could be equally argued that the duo would be better left as platonic close friends, however, Wednesday and Enid becoming a couple in the future of Wednesday would be one of the biggest steps forward for the show. With her bubbly personality and eagerness to connect to Wednesday, Enid is more likely to not only break Ortega’s character out of her shell, but actually help her grow in life as a whole, all while respecting Wednesday’s unique personality. Additionally, exploring an LGBTQ+ relationship through the lens of the gothic Wednesday would go a long way to normalizing said relationships in the same way fellow big-budget Netflix shows, The Sandman and Stranger Things, have strived to do.
