We Have a Spirit will be available on Netflix on Friday, February 24, 2023, at 3 a.m. ET. The 127-minute Family Story is produced by Marty Bowen and Dan Halsted under Legendary Entertainment and Temple Hill Entertainment. The We Have a Ghost team includes notable figures such as David Harbor, Anthony Mackie, Tig Notaro and Jennifer Coolidge, among many others. This is David Harbor and Anthony Mackie’s first major film in 2023. Meanwhile, it’s Coolidge’s second after Shotgun Wedding, in which she plays Josh Duhamel’s Tom Fowler’s mother.
Christopher Landon, known for directing the horror film Happy Death Day and its sequel, as well as Freaky, has been chosen to direct We Have a Spirit. The upcoming comedy-drama inspired by a short story published in 2017.
Where was We Have a Phantom filmed?
The upcoming film is said to have begun shooting in July 2021 in Louisiana, with main photography beginning a month later. However, the plan was shelved a few weeks later due to Hurricane Ida making landfall in Louisiana. After things returned to normal in October 2021, the cast and crew traveled to Louisiana in the cities of Donaldsonville and New Orleans for filming. They finished filming in just one month. We Have a Spirit was filmed at Ascension Parish, Lemann Memorial Center at 1100 Clay Street, Railroad Avenue and the area around Mississippi Street. All of these locations are located in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. They set up camp in New Orleans to shoot some key scenes indoors and outdoors.
What can we expect from the upcoming family horror comedy?
As said before, the picture is influenced by the short story. Ernest was written by Geoff Manaugh, a freelance journalist based in Los Angeles, and published by VICE in October 2017. Ernest, written by Landon, is “a really new twist on sentences. ghost stories and something I’ve never seen before.” He went on to say that We Have a Spirit is about an extremely troubled family that moves into a cursed house. Instead of fearing ghosts, they “duplicated” and opened a YouTube account, making the family famous on the Internet.
Meanwhile, according to the summary:
“After discovering that their new home was haunted by a ghost named Ernest, Kevin opened a YouTube account and made the ghost and his family famous on the Internet. As Kevin and Ernest begin to uncover the truth about Ernest’s past, they become targets of the CIA.”
The teaser for We Have a Presence, released last month, shows the same thing. The CIA column, run by Dr. Leslie Monroe, government agent of Tig Notaro, is less featured. The standout performance is definitely Harbor’s speechless performance as a ghost and his uncanny relationship with schoolboy Kevin.
