Waris Pathan was born on Tuesday, 29 November 1966 (age 53 years; as in 2019) in Nagpada, Mumbai and brought up in Bandra. Their zodiac sign is Sagittarius. Waris Pathan started his legal practice in 1991. He is a criminal defense lawyer. Waris became the first lawyer to grant bail to a TADA accused (Abdul Hamid Biriya, accused in the 93 Mumbai bomb blasts) on interim bail on medical grounds. He was also the first lawyer of Bollywood actor Salman Khan for the hit-and-run case (2002).
political career
Waris Pathan joined the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party a few days before the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections in 2014. In just 12 days of election campaign, he was successful in defeating the then Congress MLA Madhu Chavan from Byculla, Mumbai. He served as the MLA of Byculla from 2014 to 2019. He again ran for the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election 2019, in which he lost to Shiv Sena candidate Yamini Yashwant. On 2 January 2020, Waris was appointed the national spokesperson of the AIMIM party by AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi.

- On 15 March 2016, during the budget session, the atmosphere in the Maharashtra Assembly became heated when Waris Pathan said that he would not chant “Bharat Mata ki Jai” at any cost. Members of the Maharashtra Assembly unanimously proposed to suspend Waris Pathan from the Assembly; Due to which the Speaker suspended him. Hitting back at his suspension, Pathan later said:
I love my country. I was born here and will die here. I would never even dream of insulting my country. Don’t judge someone’s patriotism just by a slogan. Jai Hind, Jai Bharat, Jai Maharashtra.”

- In 2017, Waris Pathan was extensively criticized by several Muslim groups in India as well as members of his party AIMIM for chanting ‘Ganpati Bappa Maurya’ during a Ganpati program in his constituency Byculla, Mumbai. . He addressed the devotees present at the function and said that “he prays that Lord Ganesha removes all obstacles from his path and grants him happiness and prosperity.” This action was followed by criticism from Muslim clerics, who reportedly considered this chanting to be un-Islamic for a Muslim; He released a video of apology.
- On 19 February 2020, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Waris Pathan issued a controversial statement while addressing an anti-CAA rally in Kalaburagi, Karnataka. He said,
Now is the time for us to unite and achieve freedom. Remember, we are 15 crore but can dominate more than 100 crore.
By this statement he allegedly meant that 15 crore Indian Muslims were capable of overpowering 100 crore Indian Hindus. Kalaburagi police had registered an FIR against Waris Pathan under sections 117 (inciting public to commit offence), 153 (incitement with intent to cause riot) and 153A (promoting enmity between different groups) of the Indian Penal Code. , He had to face public anger after his alleged anti-national speech. He later withdrew his statement and said that people had misinterpreted his comment. He further explained that the “100” in his statement refers to the 100 people who are involved in anti-Muslim politics.
