VV Vinayak is an Indian film director, screenwriter, writer and actor who has worked in many films. He is one of the most famous directors of Tollywood. In 2023, he entered Bollywood with his directorial venture Chhatrapati. He is considered one of the first directors to include car flip sequences in his films.

Gandrothu Veera Venkata Vinayak Rao alias VV Vinayak Rao (also known as VV Vinayak) was born in Chagallu village in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. According to one source, he was born on Thursday, 9 October 1969 (age 53 years; as of 2022), and according to another source, he was born on Wednesday, 9 October 1974 (age 48 years; as of 2022). His zodiac sign is Libra. He completed his schooling up to intermediate in his grandmother’s village Domru. He has been interested in films since childhood and has watched a lot of films in his father’s movie theatre. After completing his schooling, he convinced his father and went to Chennai and entered the field of film production. Later he worked in many Telugu films.

In 1993, he started working as an assistant under renowned film director EVV Satyanarayana and worked on the film Abbayigaru. He later worked under director Sagar and appeared in several films including Amma Donga in 1995. In 2000, he worked as an assistant to director SV Krishna Reddy in the film Sakutumba Saparivara Sametam. He also worked with director Kranti Kumar in the film 9 Nelalu in 2000.

He worked with Bellamkonda Suresh as co-director for Rs 10,000 in the film Varma Garu Bevarase Gaadu, which was later shelved; However, Suresh was impressed by Vinayak and promised to make him a director. He later met film producer Nallamalupu Bujji and narrated him a story, which Bujji liked, and he took Vinayak to Switzerland to shoot songs for his film Cheppalani Vundhi, where he met NT Rama Rao Jr., who eventually directed the film. Acted in Vinayak’s first film. NTR initially gave Vinayak 20 minutes to narrate the story of the film; However, he became so curious that he listened to the story for 1.5 hours.

His first film as a director and writer was the 2002 action drama film Aadi starring NT Rama Rao Jr. and Kirti Chawla in the lead roles. The film was a massive hit at the box office and critics praised his directorial skills. His first film as a director and screenwriter was Tagore in 2003 starring Chiranjeevi, Jyotika, Prakash Raj and Shriya Saran in the lead roles.

He later directed several hit films including 2005’s Bani with Allu Arjun, 2006’s Lakshmi with Venkatesh, 2007’s Yogi with Prabhas and Nayanthara, 2010’s Krishna with Ravi Teja and Trisha, 2010’s N.T. In 2014, he directed the film Alludu Seenu, the debut film of Bellamkonda Srinivas, son of renowned filmmaker Bellamkonda Suresh, who had produced Vinayak’s directorial debut Aadhi. She took a break after 2018 and made a comeback in 2023 with the Hindi film Chhatrapati, starring Bellamkonda Srinivas and Nushrat Bharucha in the lead roles.
