Early life and childhood
Vitalik Buterin was born on January 31, 1994, in Kolomna, Russia. He is 29 years old and is under the astrological sign Aquarius. He has Russian-Canadian nationality and his full name is Vitaly Dmitrievich Buterin.
His father’s name is Dmitriy Buterin and his mother’s name is Natalia Ameline. Her father is an entrepreneur, mentor, blockchain investor and computer scientist and, on the other hand, her mother is a senior financial executive with experience in multiple industries.
His parents are educated and also have master’s degrees. Buterin has two younger half-sisters from her father’s marriage to Maia Buterin and their names are Misha and Katya Buterin.
His family moved to Canada when Vitalik was six years old. When he was in third grade of elementary school in Canada, he was placed in a class for gifted children and he was drawn to mathematics, programming and economics.
He then attended the Abelard School and was able to learn about Bitcoin when he was 17 years old. After high school, she attended the University of Waterloo, where she took advanced courses and was a research assistant to cryptographer Ian Goldberg.
In 2012 he managed to win a bronze medal at the International Informatics Olympiad in Italy. Buterin dropped out of college in 2014 when he received a $100,000 Thiel Scholarship grant.
It was a scholarship created by venture capitalist Peter Thiel. He then went to work on Ethereum full time. Also in 2018 he received an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Basel on the occasion of Dies Academicus.

Career and professional life
Vitalik Buterin began writing for a publication, Bitcoin Weekly, in 2011. It was after meeting a person on a Bitcoin forum with the goal of earning Bitcoin. He continued writing for the site until it closed shortly after due to insufficient income.
He then began writing for a new print publication called Bitcoin Magazine. It was the position Buterin would accept as the first co-founder and to which he would contribute as a featured writer. And in 2012, Bitcoin Magazine began publishing a print edition and is known as the first serious publication dedicated to cryptocurrencies.
Buterin is also the inventor of Ethereum and first described it in a whitepaper in 2013. The Ethereum whitepaper was circulated and interest in the new protocol grew in late 2013 and early 2014. He later provided a report 25 years old. One-minute speech, describing general-purpose global computer operating on a permissionless, decentralized network.
And ending with potential uses for Ethereum ranging from crop insurance to decentralized exchanges and DAOs. He also claimed that he was driven to create decentralized money because his World of Warcraft character was nerfed, specifically by patch 3.1.0.
He has also contributed as a developer to other open source software projects, including DarkWallet, the Bitcoin Python libraries, and the cryptocurrency marketplace Egora. He even met with President Vladimir Putin when Buterin recognized the economic and political relevance of the Ethereum venture to his native Russia.

Vitalik also came into contact with economist Glen Weyl. The two then wrote a manifesto Liberation through Radical Decentralization. They highlighted commonalities between Buterin’s work on cryptocurrencies and Weyl’s work on market-based solutions to social problems.
Vitalik Buterin has spoken out against the raid and has supported Ukraine since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. He then donated cryptocurrency to projects that support the country and backed projects that help Ukraine through “cryptophilanthropy.” He has made many donations through crypto and Ether from him.
