Vishakha Yadav is an Indian civil servant who secured 6th rank in the 2019 UPSC examination. She was the second topper among female candidates.

Vishakha Yadav was born in 1994 (age 26 years; as in 2020). She grew up in West Delhi where she received her schooling. Later, he joined Delhi College of Engineering, where he studied software engineering and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Software Engineering in 2014. Subsequently, Vishakha took a job as a software developer at Cisco Systems, a firm in Bangalore, where she worked for approx. 2.5 years. Later, he left his high paying job in 2017 to prepare for the UPSC exam.

Vishakha Yadav belongs to a Yadav family from West Delhi. His father Rajkumar Yadav is an assistant sub-inspector in Delhi Police in Dwarka. His mother Sarita Yadav is a housewife.
UPSC preparation
To prepare for the UPSC exam, Vishakha left her high-paying job in 2017. For almost three years, he stayed away from social media, including WhatsApp, and focused on his studies. After attending a coaching center for almost a year, he spent his days immersed in books in the nearby library. According to Vishakha, to relieve stress, she creates, draws and solves a lot of Sudoku puzzles; Apart from this, to de-stress himself, he also watches TV series, fascinating documentaries, interviews and TED talks. Could not even clear Visakha Prelims in her first two attempts. Talking about this and the support given by her mother during UPSC preparation, Vishakha says,
When I failed in my first attempt, it was a huge shock. Preparing for three years and taking the exam, knowing that you may not even succeed, requires a huge amount of psychological and emotional support. My mother has been there to pull me out of every dark moment. She took care of my food, my clothes and everything. I will just study.”
According to Vishakha, when she felt like giving up, her mother would say:
I am sitting near you, you study, nothing will happen.”
Vishakha Yadav finally cleared the UPSC exam in her third attempt in 2019 and secured sixth rank. According to Vishakha, soon after the interview in her third attempt, she started preparing for her fourth attempt, as she was not sure about her success. Talking about this in an interview he said,
My interview was on 18th March but as always, I was not sure whether I would be successful or not. So I started studying for my fourth attempt.
Elaborating on his preparations he said,
In my previous attempts, I was not able to maintain consistency. If you have set your daily goals then you should not miss them and postpone them for another day. You should complete them. Follow the schedule religiously. If you try to break it, it piles up and you’ll be behind schedule. This time, I made sure to set daily, weekly and monthly goals, I would complete and revise them. I kept track of my progress.”
