Career

In 1985, he made his debut with the first-class cricket representing the Punjab Cricket Team against the Services Cricket Team. From 1985 to 2003, he played 146 matches and scored 11473 runs with 33 tons. He was a member of the Punjab Cricket Team, which had won the Ranji Trophy in 1992.

On 15 April 1996, he made his ODI debut against Pakistan at Sharjah and Test debut against England on 6 June 1996. He played six Test matches and 7 ODIs. He scored 131 runs in Test and 193 runs in ODIs with two half-centuries.

In 2003, he retired from the first-class cricket and got settled in England. Later, he was called to coach the Punjab Cricket Team. He has also coached the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Team. In 2011, he was the assistant coach of the IPL Team, Kings XI Punjab. Rathour was one of the national selectors of the Sandeep Patil-led senior selection committee until 2016. From 2017 to 2019, Rathour served as the director of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association.
