Brad, Brian, and Rich Cronin were the original members of the LFO (Lyte Funkie Ones). The group was established in New Bedford, Massachusetts, in 1995. The group first found fame with its rendition of If I Can’t Have You by Yvonne Elliman, and in 1997 they published a cover of Step By Step.
Devin Lima joined the other boys when Brian left LFO in 1999 to concentrate on his solo music career. The only remaining LFO band member is Brad. Rich passed away in 2010 from leukaemia, while Devin lost his battle with cancer in 2018.
Brad, who is still actively involved in the music industry, has made it a goal to preserve the beloved boy band’s legacy as a way to pay tribute to Devin and Rich. Brad went on a brief tour in remembrance of his former bandmates last year, performing in Pittsburgh, Washington, Long Island, and New York.
At the time, Brad said on Instagram, “We will narrate the tale of LFO from 1974, the year Rich was born, till today. We’ll play era-specific music, inspiration-inspiring music, and all your #LFO favourites. We’ll share personal anecdotes on the LFO journey in a lovely and private atmosphere, he continued. The LFO website still has tickets and VIPs available.
In 2019 and 2020, Brad embarked on such brief tours in memory of LFO and his bandmates. He paid tribute to Brian in a moving message, writing: “Today I honour my former bandmate and buddy, Brizz. You would be aware of what Brian meant to LFO if you had watched the LFO Story webcast or had heard the band and I perform it in person.
The first two chapters of LFO, which you grew to know and (hopefully) love, wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for his labour of love and commitment in the early days of LFO. The band’s hit tune Summer Girls was featured on their self-titled debut album, which had 13 tracks and was released in 1999. The Billboard Hot 100’s Top 10 included Summer Girls and Girls on TV.
One of the band’s most popular songs, Summer Girls has sold over 1.5 million copies in the US and has been nominated for a Billboard Music Award for Top Selling Single of the Year.
