Controversy
sexual harassment allegation
On April 26, 2022, a female actor had filed a case of sexual harassment against Vijay Babu at Ernakulam South Police Station. In the complaint, she alleged that Vijay sexually assaulted her several times in a flat in Kochi on the pretext of offering her a role in films. Reportedly, Vijay went into hiding soon after the news broke. After this, another case was registered against Vijay for revealing the identity of the complainant through Facebook. Later, Vijay moved the Kerala High Court for anticipatory bail in the rape case. In the anticipatory bail plea, he alleged that the actor who has filed the complaint against him is trying to blackmail him. He contacted him while looking for opportunities in films. She also alleged that even after their collaboration ended, she remained in touch and eventually became close to him, despite knowing that he was married and had a family. He also said he was ready to produce the messages and photographs the two had exchanged. However, the Kerala High Court refused to accept his petition. Later another woman accused Vijay of harassment. She claimed that Vijay tried to kiss her during a work meeting, even though they knew each other for barely 20-30 minutes. She said that this incident shook her and because of this she moved away from the film industry. He said,
He was drinking and made me drink too. I refused and continued working. Suddenly, he leaned in to kiss my lips without any question, without any consent. Luckily, my reflex action was very fast and I simply pulled myself back and maintained distance from him. I looked at her face and then she asked me: Just a kiss?
Due to the controversy, Vijay resigned from the executive committee of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), saying that he would stay away from the executive committee of the organization until proven innocent in the sexual harassment case in order to save the association. From ‘insult’. He sent an official letter to AMMA in which he wrote,
Vijay Babu has sent a letter saying that he does not want to defame the organization of which he is a member of the executive committee amid the allegations against him. Until his innocence is proven, he will remain away from the executive committee. His letter (request) was discussed by AMMA and it has been approved.”
