Vece Paes is a former Indian hockey player. He was in the Indian hockey team during the 1972 Munich Olympics. He is the father of well-known Indian tennis player Leander Paes. Vece is also a certified sports medicine doctor. He served as the president of the Calcutta Cricket and Football Club.

Vece Paes was born on Monday, 30 April 1945 (age 78 Years; as of 2023) in Goa, India. His zodiac sign is Taurus. From 1951 to 1962, Vece Paes attended Saint Joseph Boys School in Bangalore for higher secondary education. In 1963 and 1964, he attended Saint Xavier College in Calcutta for Pre-University studies. Career
Medical
In 1964 and 1965, Vece Paes was preparing for medicine at Presidency College in Calcutta. Then, from 1974 to 1983, he worked as a general surgeon in medicine. After that, from 1984 to 2000, he practised medicine for companies and sports in Calcutta. Since 1991, Vece Paes has been helping the Indian Tennis Association as a Sports Medical Consultant. From 1996 to 2001, he worked with the All India Football Association. He also gives medical help to the Indian Olympic Association during the Olympic Games and Asian Games.

Sports
Vece Paes used to be a midfielder in the Indian hockey team. He played for the Indian Hockey Team from 1965 to 1972. He took part in the 1972 Munich Olympic Games and the 1971 Barcelona World Cup. Besides hockey, he also played sports like cricket, soccer, hockey, and rugby at the divisional level. He was the President of the Indian Rugby Football Union from 1996 to 2002.

In 2023, Vece Paes received the ‘Unsung Hero’ award at the Sportstar East Sports Conclave 2023 in Kolkata.

Facts/Trivia
- Vece Paes has his mother’s house in Velim, Goa, and he and his family often go to Velim for vacations. Vece Paes lives in Mumbai with his family. Like many other Goan Catholic families from AVC villages (Assolna, Velim, Cuncolim), Leander’s grandfather, Dr Peter Paes, went to work in Africa. Dr Peter Paes was a doctor in Arusha, Tanzania, for a long time. Afterwards, he came back to live with his son Vece Paes in Kolkata.
- Vece Paes is respected in the sports field for his services at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and BCCI. He is known for overseeing anti-doping education programs under BCCI and ACC.
- In 2022, a cricket match titled the Dr Vece Paes Cricket Cup was organised in Kolkata to honour Vece Paes’ life. Leander Paes, Yusuf Pathan, and Dr Vece Paes were photographed by the media with their jerseys before the match at the Calcutta Cricket and Football Club.
