At the age of 4, Custer began racing square dwarves. He won the US National Junior Gun Championship in 2011. He also won 10 races and was Rookie of the Year.
He debuted K&N Pro Series East in 2013 in Bristol. In 2013, he took the pole and led every lap, becoming the youngest K&N Pro Series race winner in six months.
