Usher defends controversial hug with Alicia Keys at the Super Bowl

Usher had quite a lineage of guests appearing with him on stage on Sunday. Some of those people included Jermaine Dupri, Lil Jon and HER. But the most notable guest who appeared on stage with the pop star was Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys. Keys and Usher performed her hit song “My Boo,” as many expected. And during the performance, the Grammy-winning duo looked remarkably comfortable on stage.

The gesture seemed harmless. But it’s well documented that Keys is married to legendary hip-hop producer Swizz Beatz. During an appearance on Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, Usher revealed that he and Swizz Beatz laughed at the overreactions.

“We laughed about it,” he said. “It’s crazy how people think. It’s about how you present things, man, it’s about love.”

Swizz Beatz talks bad about Usher and Alicia Keys

Usher received a lot of criticism for how he danced with Keys on stage. But her husband, Swizz Beatz, took to Instagram after the performance to shut down the overreactions.

“You guys are talking about the wrong damn thing!!! “They don’t see that amazing dress that covers the entire stadium,” she wrote.

“Tonight’s performance was incredible with two incredible Giants! Congratulations Usher and my love Alicia Keys, that song is a classic. We don’t create negative vibes on this side, we make history.”

Usher breaks silence on Bieber’s absence

Usher’s Super Bowl lineup was star-studded. But there was one person who did not join him on stage who stood out. That would be pop music sensation, Justin Bieber. In the weeks leading up to the big game, there had been rumors that Bieber would be part of the performance, but to no avail. As for why, the Atlanta native says it just didn’t work out.

“Did you know? It didn’t work with Justin. I honor and recognize that my brother… I think it might have been the fact that he just wanted to tell a different story at this time and I understand that. There’s no love lost or anything like that,” Usher said.

Although Justin didn’t take the stage this year, Usher believes he’ll have that platform in the future.

“He is going to play in the Super Bowl. I will go ahead and give them that in the future,” she added.

“He has a career that deserves it. “It just didn’t happen, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen.”
