Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested on Monday. The authorities detained both the influencer and his brother in Romania. The UK government will extradite the couple on sexual offense charges.
In a statement, local police said they “executed two European arrest warrants issued by the judicial authorities of the United Kingdom for the commission of sexual crimes and exploitation of people on the territory of Great Britain.”
Tate remains a controversial yet popular figure online. On TikTok, he has more than 11.6 billion viewers. Tate’s videos focus on male domination, and many consider her comments to be misogynistic in nature.
The charges against Tate date back several years, between 2012 and 2015. According to the brothers’ spokesperson, the Romanian Court of Appeal will decide whether or not to allow extradition, according to NBC.
Tate and her brother are currently facing charges of sexual assault and human trafficking in Romania. Both deny the accusations. Romanian authorities arrested both brothers in December 2022. Prosecutors formally charged them both in June 2023. Both Tate and his brother Tristan spent three months in police custody. However, authorities later placed them under house arrest and then restricted access to the outdoors.
Andrew Tate and his brother await trial on charges in Romania
Tate won an appeal earlier this year because authorities seized his assets as part of the arrest. However, both brothers face new legal problems in the United Kingdom. A spokesperson explained his side of the problem.
“This disconcerting resurgence of decade-old allegations has left the Tate brothers shocked and deeply concerned,” they said. “They categorically deny all charges and express their deep disappointment that such serious allegations are being resurrected without substantial new evidence.”
At the hearing, both requested an end to the extradition. They explained that they did not wish to return to the UK.
“When I was first falsely accused years ago, I did not understand how my life could be destroyed in such a way,” Tate told the judge.
Both brothers’ cases in Romania are still awaiting trial. Seven women accused Tate and her brother of abuse. Authorities have accused them of human trafficking, sexual assault and creating a criminal enterprise aimed at harming and exploiting women.
“Today’s news is very welcome as it was of great concern to many that Tate was attempting to avoid justice in Romania and abroad.” saying Matthew Jury, managing partner of the firm.
