The rapper, now 32, expressed the great weight that the tragic event continues to have on him, emphasizing the deep loss felt by the families and the city of Houston. “Those fans were like my family,” Scott shared. “You just feel for those people. And their families.”

Scott spoke about how the tragedy deeply affected his creative process while working on his next album. Utopia. He revealed that it took him months to get back to making music after that heartbreaking night, acknowledging the therapeutic nature of channeling his emotions into his production and sounds as he finished the album.
Describing his song “My Eyes” as one of his favorites from the album, Scott detailed how he approaches the events of that night in Houston. The moving lyrics reflect her thoughts and internal struggles, expressing the emotional weight she carries every day.
“The constant weight that is increased. What are you wearing, you know. And just a vision through my eyes,” Scott described.
In particular, he highlighted a verse that has significant meaning to him: “I repeat those nights, and right next to me, all I see is a sea of people riding with me/If they knew what Scotty would do to jump off the stage and save a child.”
Scott also conveyed his personal pain and concerns, emphasizing his desire to bring about change and improve both himself and the world around him.
The rapper had previously spoken about the tragic event in a December 2021 interview with Good morning america, expressing his inability to hear cries for help amidst the chaos. He claimed to have stopped the show several times to ensure the safety of his fans.
After the incident, a Texas grand jury cleared Scott of any criminal charges and determined that he was not responsible for the tragedy. His attorney, Kent Schaffer, highlighted investigations and reports that have focused on event security organizers and contractors.
“As we close this chapter, we hope the government’s efforts will focus on preventing future heartbreaking tragedies like Astroworld from happening again,” Schaffer said.
