Lew Palter, who appeared in an iconic scene from the movie. TitanicSadly he passed away at the age of 94.
The veteran actor played department store boss Isidor Straus in the film and was the old man who drowned in bed with his wife when the ship sank.

Straus was one of the owners of Macy’s and one of the richest passengers on the ship. He refused to get on a lifeboat while the women were still waiting to board them, and his wife wouldn’t leave without him.
The wife of OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush is actually the Strauses’ great-great-granddaughter. Stockton died last week in the submersible that imploded during a trip to the Titanic wreck site.
Palter’s daughter said the hollywood reporter who died at his Los Angeles home on May 21. The cause of death was lung cancer.
In addition to his role in TitanicLew appeared in first monday in october, the flying nunand Hill street sadness. He also served as an acting professor at CalArts Theater School from 1971 to 2013.
“Lew loved acting and taught his students to do the same. He nurtured a deep curiosity, care, intellect, and humor in every scene, play, and class,” CalArts School of Theater Dean Travis Preston said in a statement. “He had the utmost respect for his students and encouraged everyone to find the truth in their work and in their lives.”
