OWN star is more than a simple wife and reality star; She recently welcomed her first child with husband Louis Whitlow. Whitlow is also the co-founder of NOWINCLUDED, an online platform and mobile app that provides the black community with a safe place to share knowledge, learn about healthcare disparities, and share that knowledge with others.
In an exclusive interview with BLACK ENTERPRISE, Whitlow revealed how her experience as a teen mom inspired her to co-found the company and how she uses the platform to fight for Black maternal health and better access to health care for Black patients.
I was adopted at a very young age in a mixed family. My biological mother put me up for adoption because of the color of my skin. Making informed health decisions was important to me growing up, but I couldn’t do it because I didn’t know my family’s medical history.
At 19, I became a mother, which changed the way I make health decisions. Now, in addition to making decisions for myself, I also have to make decisions for the children who depend on me. I have to make sure I’m making informed decisions. My hospitalized son was diagnosed with asthma.
