On December 5, 2022, Netflix released the official trailer for The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House, offering a glimpse into a mysterious world filled with interesting people. The trailer begins with a voiceover:

The trailer then follows the lives of the two main characters, who have just moved to Kyoto to pursue their ambitions of becoming Makanai. The two girls are seen learning how to prepare traditional dishes and participate in different art forms while interacting with many of the residents of the property.
