Greta Gerwig‘s Barbie premiered on Friday (July 21), and it’s already breaking records!
The hot pink blockbuster starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling is on track for one of 2023′s biggest opening weekends at the domestic box office, according to Variety.
It’s too early to give it that record just yet. However, Barbie officially landed the biggest first-day box office of the year with an awe-inspiring $70.5 million.
The outlet noted that the blockbuster is on track to become the highest-grossing release from a female director. The record is currently held by Patty Jenkins‘ Wonder Woman, which grossed $103 million in 2017.
Barbie‘s weekend competitor Oppenheimer is off to a strong start, too. It opened with $33 million in its first day.
