The official declaration of National Day Against Terror came after the assassination of the seventh Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi on May 21, 1991. He was killed in Tamil Nadu during a campaign of terror. Then, under the government of VP Singh, the center decided to celebrate May 21 as Anti-Terrorism Day. On this day, at all government offices, public sector companies and other public institutions, etc., the oath to fight against terrorism is taken.

History behind it.

Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi went to Sriperumbudur, a location in Tamil Nadu to attend the rally. In front of him was a woman who had been a member of the terrorist group Liberation of Tamil Tigers in Eelam (LTTE). She had explosives under her clothes and approached the Prime Minister and bent down as if she wanted to touch his leg. A bomb suddenly exploded, killing the Prime Minister and about 25 people. It was internal terrorism that created fear and our country lost its prime minister.
