Teddy Gentry first became interested in music while still in high school and started concentrating on it. He started a band in 1969 with Randy Owen, his cousin. The band’s original name was “Wild Country,” but it was later changed to “Alabama.” Later, their relative Jeff Cook also joined the group. Teddy is the group’s vocalist and bassist.

In 1972, the ensemble began performing professionally and began to create unique music. Their debut song, “I Want to Be with You Tonight,” made number 78 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts and was an instant hit. They then started releasing a lot of tracks quickly. The group has contracts with a number of record companies, including GRT, RCA Nashville, BMG Chrysalis, MDJ, and others.
