Tarun Sagar, also known as Muni Tarun Sagar, Shri Pawan Kumar Jain and Jain Muni Tarun Sagar Ji Maharaj, was born on 26 June 1967 (51 years) in village Guhanchi, Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, India. He was a Digambara Jain monk. Frequently attracting media attention, Muni Tarun Sagar has always been vocal about his views regarding the general practices of the society and contemporary socio-political affairs through his bitter discourses, known as Were. His views have also been published in many leading national newspapers and his sermons have been compiled in a book titled Kadve Sermons. Tarun Sagar was often invited by state governments to address their meetings on various occasions. The Jain monk had huge fans not only among the people of the Jain community but all over the world.

Family
Muni Tarun Sagar was born in Madhya Pradesh, India, to Pratap Chandra Jain and Shanti Bai Jain. At birth he was named Pawan Kumar Jain. He remained unmarried throughout his life.
Because of his bitter sermons he was often called a revolutionary saint.

According to some sources, he left his home on 8 March 1981 at the age of 13 and the focus of his education was placed in Chhattisgarh, where he took initiation as a Kshullaka. He became a Digambara monk at the age of 20 on 20 July 1988 in Bagidoura, Rajasthan. His predecessor was Acharya Pushpadant Sagar.
He became very popular through a program called Mahavir Vani. Mahavir Vani was started by GTV. He was always a preacher of peace and non-violence. He was so impressed by Mahatma Gandhi that he organized the 1000 Gandhi program in collaboration with international trainer, author and motivational author Dr. Ujjwal Patni on 2 October 2012. The 100 Gandhi event has also been recognized by Guinness World Records as the only event in the world where 891 people dressed as Mahatma Gandhi.

Despite being a prominent Digambara saint, Muni Tarun Sagar openly expressed his concerns on various issues of the world as well as contemporary socio-economic-political matters of the society. Although we can say that Tarun Sagar was not very active in politics but we cannot completely ignore the fact that he was interested in the field of politics. He has also been invited by legislative assemblies to address meetings. Muni Tarun Sagar was invited by the Delhi and Haryana Legislative Assemblies to give his opinion.
Tarun Sagar often attracted media attention with his unconventional opinions on issues like love jihad, triple talaq, terrorism and Muslims, female foeticide and many other issues.
He also joined the Shvetambara monks during Chaturmas in Jaipur, India. Tarun Sagar also inspired the Dharma Sansad and Acharyas of Shwetambar Terapanth, Sthanakavasi and idol worshiping sects also participated in this program.

- He spoke openly on terrorism in India. He once said that compared to the number of traitors in India, there are not that many terrorists in Pakistan. He further said that many Muslims of India do not even want to live in their country, they should be sent to Pakistan and Hindus living in Pakistan, who no longer want to live there, should come back to India.
- He termed Love Jihad as a conspiracy of Muslims to convert innocent Hindu girls into Islam by luring them in the name of fake love. Sage Tarun Sagar even said that if this conspiracy is not stopped, India will become another Pakistan.
- Maharaj Tarun Sagar spoke openly on the policy of reservation. He said that reservation should be on the basis of merit and character.
- He often compared religion with the husband and politics with the wife. Tarun Sagar participated in many political programs. He said that it is the duty of a husband to protect his wife and it is the duty of every wife to obey her husband.
- Famous musician Vishal Dadlani had once tweeted against the spiritual guru. At that time, Dadlani was a member of the political party, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Even party president Arvind Kejriwal was saddened by this incident. In the end Vishal Dadlani had to apologize to Tarun Sagar.
- Tarun Sagar openly described the self-styled godmen in India as mere hypocrites who only want to accumulate wealth. He said that every third self-styled godman in India is a fraud whose only aim is to divide the country. He also blamed the common people for following these self-styled babas.
- On triple talaq, he said that those advocating the rights of Muslim women are doing so only to get political publicity from this issue. Such persons do not care about the rights of Muslim women.
Death
Revered spiritual leader, Maharaj Tarun Sagar died around 3 am on 1 September 2018 in Delhi, India after a prolonged illness. He was 51 years old. He was already suffering from jaundice and had stopped taking medicines for the last few days.
He adopted Santhara or Sallekhana in Radhepura Jain temple. Santhara is a Jain ritual of fasting until death.
