Tarek El Moussa opens up about gun incident that led to split from Christina Hall

Nearly eight years after the infamous gun incident that led to the end of his marriage to Flip or fail Christina Hall’s co-star Tarek El Moussa is finally opening up about what really happened.

In his new book, Turn Your Life Around: How to Find Opportunities in Difficult Situations – in Real Estate, Business and Life, El Moussa shares details about the situation from 2016. Before the couple officially called him in December 2016, El Moussa and Hall had broken up seven months earlier.

During an altercation, El Moussa fled to a natural area near his former home with a gun. Worried about him, Hall immediately called 9-1-1. After the call, police quickly flooded the park and were done within minutes.

According PEOPLE, Tarek El Moussa reflected on the incident. He said that after a heated argument with Hall, he went out to his backyard in Yorba Linda and jumped over the fence. El Moussa also said that, instead of supposedly running away, he was “craving exercise” and wanted to explore the trail near the house. The couple had just bought some new mountain bikes at the time.

While at Chino Hills State Park, El Moussa said he brought his “insurance policy,” a .38-caliber pistol. This was in case the park’s inhabitants, such as mountain lions and mountain cats, would be nearby. He said he had received his California concealed carry license weeks before the incident.

Tarek El Moussa didn’t think much about his actions until a helicopter appeared overhead. At first he thought there might have been an emergency, like a forest fire. However, he quickly realized that the plane was for him.

Tarek El Moussa reveals that he was handcuffed after the park incident

After the park incident, Tarek El Moussa recalled being forced to sit on a cooler in his driveway and handcuffed for several hours.

“That was the last time we were together as a family,” El Moussa wrote. “With Christina walking down the driveway, crying, and me sitting there with the handcuffs, wondering,”What’s going on?‘”

Tarek El Moussa also told him PEOPLE That the weeks after the split were physical and emotional hell. She ended up hiding in her boat and drinking herself unconscious. She was also going through extreme withdrawal from the testosterone she had been taking. His friends finally intervened and took him to a rehab facility.

“Everyone gave up,” El Moussa said. “The magazines, the media, the network, no one believed in me.”

Seven years after the incident and divorce, both El Moussa and Hall have healed and moved on. “I have nothing against Christina,” El Moussa said. “I understand why she did what she did. We had many difficult years through my illnesses and my mental health struggles from testosterone. I have never said any of this, ever.”
