Tajdar Amrohi is the stepson of famous Indian actress Meena Kumari. Tajdar had a deep relationship with Meena Kumari and he used to call her ‘Chhoti Ammi’. Remembering him in an interview he said,
Younger mother never took Baba away from us. He never asked her to leave us. She respected my mother. He didn’t give me any reason to hate him. I became very fond of him. Despite saying this, Chhoti Ammi remained the love of his life.

In 1983, Tajdar Amrohi entered the field of direction with the film ‘Razia Sultan’. This was the last film of his father Kamal Amrohi.

Tajdar later directed films like ‘Ek Number Ka Chor’ (1990), ‘Mera Mulk Mera Paigam’ (2001). He produced some films including ‘Shankar Hussain’ (1977), ‘Hum Se Hain Jahaan’ (2008), and ‘Duniyadaari’ (2017). The film ‘Hum Se Hain Jahaan’ was written and directed by Tajdar’s son Mashoor Amrohi, who also played the lead role in the film.

Legal action against Manish Malhotra
Reportedly, Tajdar Amrohi threatened legal action against designer Manish Malhotra, who is set to make his directorial debut with the biopic based on the life of Meena Kumari. He alleged that Manish Malhotra could not make a film based on his mother’s life without her consent. Tajdar also advised Kriti Sanon, who is going to play Meena Kumari in the film, to refrain from playing Meena Kumari on screen to protect the reputation of the great actress.
Later, Tajdar apologized to Kriti Sanon for his harsh words and clarified that he is not filing the suit yet as the shooting of the film has not started yet.
Kangana Ranaut was taken to task
Tajdar criticized Kangana Ranaut when she alleged that even a veteran actress like Meena Kumari had to face the havoc of Halala and triple talaq. In an interview, Tajdar said,
Kangana is stupid and illiterate. He left his studies at the age of 15 and has no common sense, which is why I am not taking any action against him, otherwise I would have sued him for defamation.

The truth is that younger mother loved me unconditionally and immensely. He overcame his differences with my father and completed the film because of his love for me. People may say that I indulge in self-praise. But the truth is that if I had not been there, the purification would not have been complete. It is a misconception that my father Kamal Amrohi had divorced my younger mother Meena Kumari. Please make this clear: they were never divorced.
