Suzanne Somers was not part of the 2024 Oscars “in memoriam” segment. Although there was much outrage over the omission, her husband, Alan Hamel, had a classy response.
“Last time I checked, we still had a First Amendment. I respect the Academy’s decision not to include Suzanne In Memoriam. Frankly, the outpouring from millions of her fans was the kind of In Memoriam that Suzanne would have lovingly embraced,” she said.
“She adored and respected her fans. And similarly she enjoyed a beautiful relationship with the media and paparazzi that elevated her career to rarely seen heights.”
Al Pacino responds to Oscar nominees’ snub
The 2024 Oscars were not without controversy and one of the controversial moments involved the famous actor Al Pacino.
Pacino was in charge of presenting the award for Best Picture. It is customary for the award presenter to read all the nominees and then announce the winner. But Pacino skipped the nominees and announced Oppenheimer as the winner.
The moment went viral on social media and some thought Pacino did it intentionally. But the day after the ceremony he clarified his actions.
“I just want to make it clear that it was not my intention to omit them, but rather a decision by the producers not to say them again, as they were highlighted individually throughout the ceremony. “It was my honor to be a part of the evening and I chose to follow the way they wanted this award to be presented,” Pacino said in a statement.
“I realize that being nominated is a huge milestone in one’s life and not being fully recognized is offensive and hurtful.”
