- Not everyone can call on the Force, as it requires talent and persistent training, like the Jedi who strengthen their bond through early identification and rigorous training.
- This answer makes the Force less elusive and more tangible, suggesting that some individuals may have an innate talent to wield the Force and become stronger with training.
One of Star Wars’ most long-running questions about the Force and the Jedi has been answered in Ahsoka. Details about the Force have progressively come out and developed over the years, from the introduction of Midi-chlorians in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace to Force-healing in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. While some ideas have been more embraced than others, the question of who exactly can wield the Force and why has been left unanswered for 46 years. It became inevitable for this question to be answered somehow in Ahsoka once it was revealed that Sabine Wren is Ahsoka’s Padawan.
The Star Wars Rebels Mandalorian had never shown signs of using the Force before, and despite that, she still took on Jedi training and is continuing to do so in the new live-action series. This left many viewers wondering how she’s been able to undergo such training if she’s elusive to the Force, especially with Huyang verifying Sabine is the least Force-sensitive Padawan he’s ever come across. Since Ahsoka episode 3 showed a glimpse into Sabine’s training with her master, the answer to this long-running question has finally come to light.
Ahsoka Insists Everybody Has The Force – Not Just Jedi
Ahsoka states that the Force resides within all living things, just as Kanan Jarrus had said while he was training Sabine with the Darksaber. Their ideas both find their origin in what Obi-Wan Kenobi said to Luke Skywalker in A New Hope, in that the Force binds everyone and everything in the galaxy together. In order for the Force to do that, it must live in everyone, whether they’re Force-wielding Jedi or not. This aligns with George Lucas’ rule that anyone can use the Force, though Ahsoka does identify an important restriction to this idea.
Not Everybody Can Call On The Force, However
Ahsoka tells Sabine that it does require talent and persistent training to be able to wield the Force, an echo of the words Luke himself told Din Djarin in The Mandalorian regarding Grogu. This is why people like the Jedi can connect with it on such a close and powerful level. The talent of Jedi in wielding the Force was identified at a very young age, and with the training they underwent at the Jedi Temple, they were able to strengthen their bond with the Force and thus wield it in a way many other people in the galaxy could not. While the Force does live in everyone, then, only those with both enough talent and training can actually call on the Force to wield it.
This goes along with age-old theories, such as Han Solo unknowingly using the Force in his riskier piloting endeavors. If the Force does reside within all living things as Ahsoka has asserted, then it would be possible for people to wield it unknowingly, though without talent and training they could never call upon it willingly. The answer to this question certainly makes the Force less elusive, but also more tangible in a way that’s easier to understand. One person may not necessarily be born with more of the Force than someone else, but could have an innate talent to wield it, as well as persistent training and discipline that makes it possible for them to be stronger in calling upon the Force than others. The continuation of Sabine’s Jedi journey in Ahsoka will go on to develop the answer to this long-running question even further.
