- During an interview, when Sriram was asked what got him hooked to computers, he replied,
This is quite an interesting story. Till class 12th (sometime in 1999), I had never touched or used a computer, except a few DOS commands which we used to memorize for our exams. I wanted to be a writer or go into graphics and animation. My life changed one day in 12th class when my computer science teacher called me during lunch break. It turned out that an unknown organization (called Comp-U-Learn) was offering a free, promotional “Introduction to Computers” course. Figuring it wouldn’t do any harm (and after all it was free), I happily went to this computer institute where we learned things like creating folders, drawing pictures in Paint, etc.
Furthermore, Sriram shared an incident which had a deep impact on his life.
In one particular class, we were being taught how to copy-paste and the instructor said, ‘Please right-click the ‘My Computer’ icon on the desktop.’ Surprised, I raised my hand and curiously asked ‘Sir, where is the desktop?’ Everyone in the class, including the instructor, laughed. I was hurt. In almost cinematic fashion, I swore to myself then that no one would ever laugh at me when it came to computers. The ‘course’ was for 15 days and the institute wanted students to sign up for an additional 30-day course on C/C++. I was the only student who signed up for additional courses. I completed 12th class and the day after my TNPCEE engineering entrance exam, my dad bought me a computer. It was a P3, 850 MHz machine with an astonishing 256 MB of RAM. I was stuck the entire vacation. I spent the entire vacation writing code in VB6 and have been coding ever since…”

This was not planned at all. Aarti and I have been together for almost half our lives; We have been married for more than a decade. “And during the pandemic, this was kind of a pet project that we would enjoy doing.”
He added,
We had no idea that this explosion was going to happen. We started with something like we always do – after putting our two-year-old to bed, we’d host conversations because, during the pandemic, we haven’t been able to see a lot of the people we usually see.
