Sophia Ivy Rose Dunkley was born on Thursday, 16 July 1998 (age 25 years; as of 2023) in Lambeth, Greater London, England. His zodiac sign is Cancer.
She grew up in North London with her mother as an only child in a single-parent family. She initially played football and was introduced to cricket by her neighbor Jack Carr. Talking about his unconventional path into cricket in an interview, he said,
He was one of my best friends growing up. We lived in a closed room so we were able to play outside. We both joined a club together, a boys’ club, and it started from there.”
Then, Carr took Dunkley with him for cricket training at Finchley Cricket Club, where he began his early career in the club’s boys’ teams. At that time Dunkley was unaware of women’s cricket. She discovered women’s cricket when someone suggested she go to the Middlesex girls under-11 trials. She played for Finchley Cricket Club and went through the youth stages before joining the Middlesex team. He entered the Middlesex county system at the under 11 age group and played up to the under 19 age group. At the age of 14, she made her county debut for Middlesex in a match against Sussex during the 2012 Women’s Twenty20 Cup.
